First BIG EYES Images Released: Christoph Waltz and Amy Adams Face off in Tim Burton’s Drama about Painters Walter and Margaret Keane

The Weinstein Company has released the first two Big Eyes images online.  Tim Burton‘s latest film focuses on the artistic coupling of Margaret (Amy Adams) and Walter Keane (Christoph Waltz).  Walter became famous in the 1950s and 60s for paintings featuring saucer-eyed kids, though it was the shy Margaret who really did the work.  Margaret eventually tired of the misplaced credit, which led to a divorce and a heated court battle to prove authorship of the paintings.  I would love to see Burton take on a worthwhile story again, and this one has the potential to catapult him back to making an interesting movie with real characters as opposed to Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter being weird for 100 minutes.

Wow.  My head must have been buried in the sand because, aside from a few cursory glances at a poster here and there around the net, I had been more or less unfamiliar with the new Terry Gilliam film, The Zero Theorem. Not anymore.  This new U.S. trailer is fantastic. It’s utterly striking and unique and reminds us of what Gilliam is capable of.  I’m so relieved someone gave him some money to play around with again.

The Zero Theorem stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation; Melanie ThierryTilda Swinton, and David Thewlis also star.  The film hits iTunes on August 19th and limited theaters on September 19th. Just a couple of days after New Line released the trailer, we’re getting a couple of Horrible Bosses 2 images from the sequel directed by Sean Anders (That’s My Boy). This time we’re treated to a more detailed view of the film’s new villains Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine. I actually like the original film, so I could go for another round of Jason BatemanCharlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis trying to channel their inner sociopaths.

When a slick investor (Christoph Waltz) takes over, “the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son (Chris Pine) and ransom him to regain control of their company.”  Jennifer AnistonJamie Foxx, and Kevin Spacey also return in for more on November 26th.  Hit the jump to check out the new Horrible Bosses 2 images!

New Line has released the first trailer for Horrible Bosses 2, directed by Sean Anders (That’s My Boy).  Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis return to start a new business in the sequel.  When a slick investor (Christoph Waltz) takes over, “the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son (Chris Pine) and ransom him to regain control of their company.”  I somehow missed the first installment from Seth Gordon back in 2011, but this new trailer makes me want to remedy that ASAP.  It’s also got the best use of “Turn Down for What” since, well, DJ Snake & Lil Jon’s video.

Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Foxx, and Kevin Spacey also return in Horrible Bosses 2, scheduled for release on November 26th.  Hit the jump to watch the first Horrible Bosses 2 trailer.

A few featurettes for two upcoming films have landed online.  Firstly, three new behind-the-scenes videos for director Terry Gilliam’s new film The Zero Theorem offer a look at the costumes, the main set, and Gilliam’s directorial process.  The pic stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation.  Also starring Melanie Thierry, Tilda Swinton, and David Thewlis, the film opens in the U.K. on March 14th and is currently awaiting a U.S. release date.

Additionally, a new 4-minute featurette for director Denis Villeneuve’s (Prisoners) twisty thriller Enemy has been released online.  The story revolves around a university lecturer (Jake Gyllenhaal) who discovers that he has a double, whom he tracks down and engages, resulting in “a complex and dangerous struggle.”  This new behind-the-scenes video offers a look at how Villeneuve managed to create two Gyllenhaals in the same scene.  Also starring Maline Laurent, the film is currently available on DirecTV and will open in theaters March 14th.

Warner Bros. Sets July 1, 2016 Release Date for David Yates’ TARZAN 3D

tarzan-reboot

Warner Bros. has staked out a July 1, 2016 release date for its big-budget adaptation of Tarzan, in 3D no less.  The film has been in development for over a year and at one point was put on hold due to budget concerns, but it’s been picking up steam once again over the past few months.  David Yates is onboard to direct, making this his first feature since helming the final four Harry Potter films back-to-back, and True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard is set in the titular role as Tarzan.  Margot Robbie—who shined as the female lead in The Wolf of Wall Street—will make the leap to franchise films playing Jane, and Samuel L. Jackson and Christoph Waltz are confirmed to co-star.

Currently, Independence Day 2 is also scheduled to open on that 4th of July weekend in 2016 alongside the Angry Birds movie, but either ID4 or Tarzan will likely shift to another weekend to avoid cannibalizing each other.  With this new date for Tarzan, 2016 is shaping up to be a big year for Warner Bros., as the studio will also launch Batman vs. Superman in May.  Read the full press release for Tarzan after the jump.

A brief behind-the-scenes featurette for director Terry Gilliam’s new film The Zero Theorem has landed online.  The pic stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation.  We got our first good look at footage from the film a couple of weeks ago by way of the first theatrical trailer, and this new featurette offers up even more footage from the decidedly odd feature.  In the featurette, Gilliam and some of his crew discuss some production design aspects of the future-set pic, specifically discussing the fact that in this future, computers have grown larger and not smaller.  The movie continues to look like a trip, and I’m definitely interested to see what Gilliam has put together.

The first trailer for director Terry Gilliam’s upcoming film The Zero Theorem has been released online.  The pic stars Christoph Waltz as Qohen Leth, a computer hacker who searches for the meaning of life while being distracted by Management, a shadowy figure from an Orwellian corporation.  The film certainly looks to be a trip, as it feels like it’s wholly from the mind of Terry Gilliam.  Waltz appears to be going all out in his lead role, and he’s surrounded by a very colorful cast of characters sporting various wigs, accents, and futuristic clothes.  I’m very interested to see how this nutty story progresses.

Quentin Tarantino Eyeing Bruce Dern and Christoph Waltz for Western THE HATEFUL EIGHT

It appears that we may have a new Quentin Tarantino film to look forward to sooner rather than later.  Just before the holidays, Tarantino revealed that his follow-up to Django Unchained would be another Western, adding, “I had so much fun doing Django, and I love Westerns so much that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘OK! Let me make another one now that I know what I’m doing.”  While the filmmaker didn’t add anymore details about the project other than the fact that he was in the process of writing the screenplay, it appears that he’s close enough to finishing the script that he’s now showing it to a handful of actors that he wants for the lead roles.  Titled The Hateful Eight, Tarantino is reportedly eyeing regular collaborator Christoph Waltz and veteran actor Bruce Dern for to star in his next film.  Hit the jump for more.

Samuel L. Jackson in Talks for David Yates’ TARZAN; Christoph Waltz Confirmed

Warner Bros.’ big screen adaptation of Tarzan is back on in a big way.  Though the project was initially planned as Harry Potter director David Yates’ follow-up to Deathly Hallows – Part 2, the studio put the brakes on the film due to budget concerns earlier this year.  Apparently all parties came to an agreement, as movement picked up again a few months ago with Christoph Waltz entering talks to star as the villain opposite Alexander Skarsgard, who will play the titular Tarzan.  Now Variety reports that Samuel L. Jackson is in talks to co-star with Skarsgard and adds that Waltz’s deal has closed.

Jackson was first linked to Tarzan over a year ago, when he was being eyed for the role of a Civil War veteran eager to redeem himself for his part in the massacre of Native Americans.  No word if that’s still the role Jackson will be playing, but Variety also notes that The Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie is now the top choice to play Jane.  With the project heating up, expect to hear more casting news soon.

PIRATES OF CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES May Have Christoph Waltz in Mind for a Villain

As of this writing, we know that Johnny Depp is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, written by Jeff Nathanson and directed by Kon-Tiki‘s Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, who are aiming for a 2016 release.  Everything else that follows can be filed squarely under “rumor”.  We’ve got a few new possible plot details for the fifth installment of the high-seas fanchise, along with a pair of actors who could be starring alongside Depp, plus a host of character descriptions.  It’ll be interesting to say the least if it all turns out to be true, but there’s a good chance it’s nothing but bilge.  Hit the jump for more.

Chris Pine Could Be a Terrible Employer in HORIBBLE BOSSES 2

I really enjoyed the first Horrible Bosses, and I’m hoping the sequel can live up to the original.  There currently aren’t any details on the new installment, but some new bad bosses are on deck.  Deadline reports that Christoph Waltz and Chris Pine are being eyed to play a father/son duo of horrible bosses, but Waltz will probably be unavailable due to scheduling.  That leaves Pine, who could be a good fit provided they’re willing to find an unexpected twist like they did for Colin Farrell.  Instead of taking his good looks to go the easy, smarmy jock route, they plastered him with a comb-over and a raging coke habit.

I was hoping that the sequel would work from the script by Horrible Bosses screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, but after Seth Gordon dropped out from directing, Sean Anders came on board and rewrote the script with We’re the Millers co-writer John Morris.  I enjoyed that movie, and since a large part of the original’s appeal was the improv between stars Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, and Jason Sudeikis, there’s reason to be optimistic.  Horrible Bosses 2 opens November 26, 2014.

Tarzan may be swinging into theaters in a couple of years after all.  Director David Yates had been developing the project since 2012 as his follow-up to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, but earlier this year word came that Warner Bros. was putting the brakes on Tarzan due to budget concerns.  The future of the project was uncertain as potential filming was pushed to 2014, but now it appears that things are back on track as Christoph Waltz has entered talks to take on the villain role opposite Alexander Skarsgard, with an official greenlight potentially imminent.  Hit the jump for more.
