Theatrical Trailer for DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX

by     Posted 3 years, 15 days ago

A new trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) the film is based on the childrens book by Dr. Seuss and tells the story of a boy searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger. This theatrical trailer delves pretty deep into the plot, and it looks as though the film will be taking the story a bit further than the book, focusing quite heavily on the boy’s exploits around town (ie. running from the “bad guys”). I’m really hoping the story’s environmental message doesn’t get lost in the silliness. Things have looked promising thus far, with some great visuals and charming work from DeVito, so I’m optimistic.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film features the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Rob Riggle, and Betty WhiteDr. Seuss’ The Lorax opens in 3D on March 2nd, 2012.

Australian Trailer for THE LORAX Has More Footage, Less Romance

by     Posted 3 years, 43 days ago

In the domestic trailer for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax, we got a sense of the romantic angle that directors Chris Renaud (Despicable Me) and Kyle Balda want to take, along with the story of the title character. A new Australian trailer for The Lorax omits the romance entirely in favor of a few new bits of footage. This promo focuses more on the legend of The Lorax (Danny DeVito) and his run-in with the Once-ler (Ed Helms).

The Universal Pictures interpretation of the Dr. Seuss classic will bring the grumpy Lorax to life in “IMAX Tree-D.” The film also features the voice talents of Taylor Swift, Betty White and Rob Riggle. Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax opens on March 2, 2012. Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.

First Trailer and 10 Hi-Res Images from DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX

by     Posted 3 years, 55 days ago

The first trailer for The Lorax has gone online. Directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me), the film is based on the classic Dr. Seuss enviromentally-conscious children’s book that centers on a boy who is searching for the one thing that will win him the girl of his dreams. In order to find it, he must learn the story of The Lorax, a creature whose world is in danger.  As you’ll see in the trailer, there’s the unmistakable Suessian architecture and it certainly looks colorful enough.  But there are little things in this trailer that are making me a bit nervous about the film.  The framing device shows a bright and colorful world so the Once-ler chopping down all the trees hasn’t been too much of a problem.  Also, while I understand it’s a family film that wants to play up the comedy, I hope the Lorax’s message won’t be diminished by making him a creature of fun rather than a bearer of grave warnings.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with ten high resolution images . The film features the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Rob Riggle, and Betty WhiteThe Lorax opens in 3D on March 2nd, 2012.

Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito Set Visit Interview IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

by     Posted 3 years, 185 days ago

Wrapping up filming on its 7th season, likely to debut in September on FX, about a dozen online outlets were invited to hang out on the set and chat with the cast of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia while they were shooting their season finale. After observing a couple of scenes being shot, which were connected to the baby storyline from Season 6, and taking a tour of the sets, which included the very recognizable Paddy’s Pub, we were treated to a delicious catered lunch and then brought into a conference room to wait for the cast.

Show creator/executive producer/star Rob McElhenney, who has put on 50 pounds for story purposes, was joined by co-stars Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito for a nearly 45-minute chat, in which they talked about the darker tone, their jaunt to the Jersey Shore, guest stars, more serialized storytelling, themes of this season, the reason for the extreme weight gain, and their hope for a Season 8. Check out excerpts that highlight some of the stand-out points of the interview, and listen to the audio for the full conversation:

Taylor Swift Joins Voice Cast of THE LORAX; New Image Released

by     Posted 3 years, 279 days ago

In Valentine’s Day, singer Taylor Swift showed that acting was not her strong suit.  Universal is hoping that perhaps she’ll have better luck with voice acting and has cast her as one of the leads in the CGI animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.  Swift will play Audrey the dream girl of the main character, Ted (voiced by Zac Efron).  Ted is on a search to find the Lorax (Danny DeVito) and in his search comes across the enigmatic Once-ler (Ed Helms) and the greedy financial king O’Hare (Rob Riggle).  Betty White will voice Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

Hit the jump for the full press release along with a new image from the film.  The Lorax is set to be released in 3D on March 2, 2012.

Trailer and 4 Images for GIRL WALKS INTO A BAR Starring Carla Gugino, Zachary Quinto, and Rosario Dawson

by     Posted 3 years, 307 days ago

The trailer for Girl Walks into a Bar has gone online.  The film has an impressive cast that includes Carla Gugino, Zachary Quinto, Danny DeVito, Josh Hartnett, Rosario Dawson, Alexis Bledel, and Robert Forster.  Based solely on the trailer, I have no idea was to what the movie’s about.  But Girl‘s hook doesn’t seem to be it’s cast or its story, but rather its distribution method.  Girl Walks into a Bar will be presented by Lexus and YouTube for free, exclusively on YouTube.  The money quote in the press release comes from Lexus VP of Marketing Dave Nordstrom:

“It seems fitting to support this initiative as we launch our most unconfined vehicle yet—the CT 200h hybrid —in a space that we know will reach an unconventional, sophisticated audience.” (emphasis mine)

Clearly, Mr. Nordstrom has never been on YouTube.  Hit the jump to check out the trailer, four images from the film, and the full press release.  Girl Walks into a Bar goes online March 11th.

Danny DeVito to Voice THE LORAX; Zac Efron, Betty White, Ed Helms, and Rob Riggle to Co-star

by     Posted 4 years, 58 days ago

Danny DeVito will voice the title character in Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax.  In a statement to USA Today, Illumination head Chris Meledandri said of DeVito, “Danny has this wonderful ability to be acerbic and grouchy but at the same time absolutely lovable.  It’s almost like Walter Matthau had. His comedic edge was very sharp, but he always maintained that warmth.”  Apparently, Melendandri has never seen an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or he’s just really hoping that you haven’t.  I am constantly amazed at how gross they’re willing to make his DeVito’s character, Frank Reynolds.  However, since DeVito is only voicing the character, perhaps it won’t be so easy to envision his disgusting Sunny antics.

Hit the jump to learn about what roles Zac Efron, Betty White, Ed Helms, and Rob Riggle will be playing in the 3D animated film.

For five seasons (plus a Christmas special), It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been the flagship comedy on a network known for its edgy dramas.  Sunny remains on brand for FX by this virtue: you certainly can’t find anything like it on the broadcast networks, you probably can’t find anything comparable on the rest of basic cable, and even the unlimited bounds of premium cable systematically fail to espouse such depravity with such consistency.

There is a theoretical saturation point, where either I or the characters get too old for their antics.  Thank god it hasn’t come in season six, which continues to provide shameful joy in the four episodes FX sent over for review.  More after the jump:

When in Rome movie image Kristen Bell, Josh Duhamel - slice.jpg

Who says all is fair in love and Rome? Kristen Bell stars in director Mark Steven Johnson’s new romcom, When in Rome, as an ambitious young New Yorker disillusioned with romance. On a whirlwind trip to Rome to attend her sister’s wedding and after one too many glasses of champagne, she ends up wading through a fountain of love, gathering coins left there by people who wished for love.

Funny men Jon Heder, Will Arnett, Dax Shepard and Danny Devito play a street magician, an adoring painter, a narcissistic model, and a sausage magnate who chase after her heart when their passion is inexplicably ignited by her gesture. But when a charming reporter (Josh Duhamel) shows up to compete for her romantic attention, she starts to wonder if his love might just be the real thing.

We sat down with Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel to talk about their new movie, When in Rome. After the jump you can read what they had to tell us about their characters, the perils of physical comedy, and how they went about capturing the right rhythm for a romantic relationship. Kristen also updated us on the status of Veronica Mars:

Interview with IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA Stars and Co-Creators Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney

by     Posted 5 years, 26 days ago

Even from its pilot episode, “The Gang Gets Racist”, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has been one of the most mean-spirited and offensive shows on television.  It’s also been one of the funniest, and it’s only gotten funnier, as well as more mean-spirited and offensive, over the last four seasons.  Now in its fifth season, the show has become one of FX’s biggest hits and they’ve even released a special Christmas episode, A Very Sunny Christmas, which is available now on DVD, Blu-ray, and digital download.

Stars and co-creators Glenn Howerton (who plays Dennis Reynolds) and Rob McElhenney (who plays Mac) recently sat down for a conference call where they talk about the show’s success, the controversy surrounding the episode “The Great Recession” which prominently featured Dave & Busters and Coors Light, how they came to create A Very Sunny Christmas, and more.  Fans of the show should definitely check it out after the jump.

Matt’s Preview for the New Season of IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA

by     Posted 5 years, 95 days ago

By a time a show reaches its fifth season, it’s in an awkward place.  It’s established what made it popular but if it keeps using that established trait, then the show gets stale, it dies, and too many shows avoid this natural selection by either indifferent audiences who don’t want any evolution in their show or by networks who are too scared to replace it with a new show that may not even build up an audience in the first place.

So where does “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” go?  We know it’s meaner than hell, features the most unlikable cast possible, and pushes its characters to unbelievable stupidity.  Well, as it turns out, they can perfect all this and then up their game by having the actors announce that they’ve just mastered comedic performance.  Hit the jump to find out why the newest season of TV’s meanest comedy may be its best yet.

Bright Star movie image Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw - slice.jpg

As I wrote when I posted the new images from “Mr. Nobody” and “The White Ribbon”, the Toronto Film Festival starts in a few weeks and like every year, the Festival is loaded with plenty of world premieres. While I had planned on attending this year’s festival as a member of the working press, due to my deciding to attend too late, I missed the cut for getting a press badge. However, I’m still going, and hope to be able to report on the films and interview a lot of the people attending.

Anyway, with the festival gearing up to start, I’ve been provided with a lot of new images from the films  premiering. So after the jump take a look at images from Jane Campion’s “Bright Star”, “Creation”, “Defendor”, and “Solitary Man”.
