Warner Bros. has released a full gallery of high-resolution images from Tim Burton’s upcoming Dark Shadows. Johnny Depp stars as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. We’ve seen a couple of these images before, but Warner Bros. also released a number of images of Burton at work on set making artsy hand gestures.

With a cast that sports Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Helena Bonham Carter and Michelle Pfeiffer, it’s easy to lose Christopher Lee in the mix. This new Dark Shadows featurette reminds us that Lee is a consummate master of the horror genre and can boast a role that will forever be cemented in cinematic history. There’s a nice visitation of classic (ie non-Twilight) vampire movies that serve as inspiration for Depp’s version of Barnabas Collins, an imprisoned vampire who is awakened in the 1970s and must protect his dysfunctional descendants. The film, directed by Tim Burton, also stars Gulliver McGrath, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. Hit the jump to check out the featurette.

When Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov took the stage at CinemaCon today, the big debate was over what footage he would showcase. While rumors were flying that he’d show ten minutes of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit in 48fps, and that Christopher Nolan would show something from The Dark Knight Rises, no one was sure of anything. But when he stepped off the stage after the presentation had ended, he had shown clips from some of the biggest films of 2012 and he also made history by world premiering the rumored Hobbit footage.
During the presentation we saw footage from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows, Jay Roach’s The Campaign, Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby in 3D, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, Adam Shankman’s Rock of Ages, and it ended with 10 minutes of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit in 48fps. While walking around at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, I’ve been taking tons of pictures of all the posters/banners/theater standees that have been on display. For those unaware, CinemaCon is a convention put on for theater owners in order to get a look at what the studios have to offer for the rest of the year, and where vendors can show new products for theaters to buy. It’s basically Comic-Con for theater owners. Besides showing off never before seen footage, the studios often bring the cast and the filmmakers. Over the course of a few days, Hollywood comes to Las Vegas.
While a lot of the banners are just logos, I think they’re still worth checking out. Also, it’s important to note that the posters/displays change during the week so you never know when something cool will premiere. Hit the jump for posters/banners for a ton of movies including James Bond Skyfall, Dark Shadows, Moonrise Kingdom, Sparkle, That’s My Boy, Sinister, The Amazing Spider-Man, House at the End of the Street, The Host, Battleship, Looper, Step Up Revolution, Ted, Sinister, Here Comes the Boom, and so many more.

Continuing on with the onslaught of high resolution images from Warner Bros. films today, we’ve got some high quality stills from Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows to share. Johnny Depp stars as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. These images give us a peek at Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer acting strange toward one another, and another Johnny Depp/Tim Burton set image to add to the pile (someone could put together a killer scrapbook from their work over the years).

Warner Bros. has released nine character banners for Tim Burton‘s comedy Dark Shadows. These banners are much better than the character posters, which made the entire cast look like albinos for some reason.
Hit the jump to check out the banners. The film stars Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.

New TV spots have gone online for Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows and the fairy-tale reimagining Snow White and the Huntsman. The spot for Dark Shadows is amusing, and between this film and Burton’s stop-motion animated remake of Frankenweenie, the director may end up having a good comedy year. As for Snow White, the spot plays up Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen along with the catchy visuals (even though there’s a weird coda of Chris Hemsworth swinging some axes).

Seth Grahame-Smith is becoming the go-to guy for genre projects. After writing a number of tongue-in-cheek comedy books, Grahame-Smith broke big with his novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in which he mixed a zombie plot into Jane Austen’s classic novel. He followed that book up with another mash-up, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and now both properties are getting the big screen treatment. Grahame-Smith wrote the screenplay for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and was tapped by Tim Burton to write his adaptation of the cult soap series Dark Shadows. Burton was so impressed with Grahame-Smith’s work that he hired him to write a sequel to the horror-comedy classic Beetlejuice (read Grahame-Smith’s update on that project here).
Steve recently got the chance to speak with Grahame-Smith at WonderCon where he was promoting the upcoming release of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The scribe gave an update on the long-in-development feature adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, his next book Unholy Night (which is also getting the movie treatment), talked about the tone of Dark Shadows and fan response to the trailer, and more. Hit the jump to see what he had to say.

The marketing campaign for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is now in full swing with a little less than two months to go before the film’s released. While I was pleasantly surprised by the goofy first trailer, I found the random Alice Cooper cameo to be a little irksome and cheesy. That said, it’s good to see Burton doing comedy again and I’m hoping for the best from this adaptation of the cult soap series. Nine character posters have now been unveiled, giving us a colorful look at this strange, strange family. The plot involves a vampire (Johnny Depp) who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants.

A new international trailer for Tim Burton’s feature adaptation of the cult soap series Dark Shadows has gone online. The US trailer debuted last week, and I was pleasantly surprised by the clip; Dark Shadows looks like an incredibly goofy, fun time in the vein of The Addams Family and Beetlejuice. Johnny Depp stars as a vampire who awakens in 1972 after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. This international trailer isn’t much different from the US trailer, but it adds a bit at the end featuring Alice Cooper. The joke doesn’t really work for me, and Cooper seems like a really random addition. But, you know, ghoulishness.

From here on out, when I see a movie and can’t quit thinking about it one week after my initial viewing I’m going to refer to it as the Martha Marcy May Marlene effect. I was uncertain how I felt about it while watching. Flash-forward one week later and I’m still uncertain. Combine some great performances from Elizabeth Olsen and John Hawkes, reserved but effective cinematography, sparse dialogue and even fewer musical cues and what I got was one of the most paranoia-filled movie experiences I’ve ever had. While that may sound like a backhanded compliment, if writer/director Sean Durkin was trying to evoke the type of emotions I think he was with Martha, it may be the highest compliment I can pay him.

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s feature film version of the cult TV series Dark Shadows has finally arrived. After seeing a bevy of images over the past few months (including some hi-res ones today), we finally get a look at this thing in motion. The plot centers on a vampire (Johnny Depp) who awakens after having been buried for 200 years and tries to reconnect with his descendants. The beginning of the trailer is played straight, and we’re lead to believe that we’re in for another nightmarish tale from Burton, but when Depp wakes up in 1972 things kick into gear. This is very much a comedy, and there are more than a few laughs on display in the trailer. Burton and Depp have a lot of fun with the 1970s setting, and Depp’s reaction to modern technology is amusing. It’s got a goofy tone in the vein of Beetlejuice or Mars Attacks!, and I’m eager to see if the whole film plays like a return to comedic form for Burton.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley, Gulliver McGrath, Helena Bonham Carter, Bella Heathcote, Ray Shirley, and Jonny Lee Miller. Dark Shadows opens May 11th. [Update: We've updated the article with a high quality trailer and the film's poster.]

The first trailer for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows is set to premiere later today, but in case that’s just too darn long of a wait, quite a few new images have popped up online to whet your appetite. They’re most likely screengrabs from the trailer, but they do give us a better sense of what we’re in for. It’s been unclear as to whether Burton’s take on the cult soap series would skew dramatic or comedic, but I’m hearing the trailer hints at a strong comedic tone. These images seem to support that assessment, as Burton’s usual flair for color and whimsy is on full display. We see Burton staple (and wife) Helena Bonham Carter sporting some goofy sunglasses, and Johnny Depp as the vampire Barnabas Collins curiously studying some dinosaur toys (“What is this sorcery?!”). The plot concerns Collins’ awakening after having been buried for 200 years.
Hit the jump to check out the images, and be sure to come back later today to take a gander at the trailer. The film also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Moretz, and Eva Green. Dark Shadows opens May 11th.

Dark Shadows, a remake led by Johnny Depp and infused with a larger-than-life design by director Tim Burton, is ostensibly Warner Bros’ first summer tentpole. The May 11 release date is less than two months away. But you would be forgiven if that slipped your mind. Although we’ve seen many, many, many* images, WB has yet to release the first trailer. That will change on Thursday when, in keeping with the atypical promotional cycle, the trailer will premiere on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
A new promo for the gifting episode of Ellen features about 3 seconds of footage from the trailer. It’s not much, but since it’s our first look at this very intriguing project in motion, you may find it a worthwhile use of your seconds after the jump.
