Three new hi-res images from Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 were made available by Disney today.  While the pics show off the decidedly underpowered actors portraying their human roles, we do get to see Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Guy Pearce as Adrian Killian, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes and, of course, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.  Also starring Ben Kingsley, Jon Favreau and Rebecca Hall, Iron Man 3 opens May 3rd.  Hit the jump to see the new images.

Marvel has released a new poster for director Shane Black’s upcoming sequel Iron Man 3, and this time Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark is nowhere to be found.  Don Cheadle gets his day in the sun on this poster, which features the actor decked out in the Iron Patriot armor.  It’s a pretty nifty one-sheet, and it looks as if the background scene is the same from the recent “Iron Man is falling from the sky” poster, in which the titular hero was shown in a fairly perilous situation.

Iron Man 3 is set to kick-off the summer, and Robert Downey Jr. recently sat down for an interview about the film as well as other subjects (Entertainment Weekly is drawing out the interview for the whole week).  While it’s always nice to see Downey do his thing, my anticipation for Iron Man 3 is all about director Shane Black.  Black’s previous film, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, is one of my all-time favorites, and I can’t wait to see what he does with his first blockbuster.  While this will be a summer tent pole, Downey says Black has kept his pulpy style intact. “It’s a hallmark of the Shane Black [scripts] since the beginning of his career,” says Downey, “and it’s been really fun to bring that to Tony Stark’s world.”

Hit the jump for more, including an action scene we should forward to as well as Rhodey’s (Don Cheadle) part in the sequel.  The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben KingsleyRebecca HallGuy PearceJon Favreau, and James Badge DaleIron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3rd.

2013 Golden Globe Winners Announced; ARGO Takes Best Picture (Drama), Best Director; LES MISERABLES Wins Best Picture (Comedy or Musical)

The 2013 Golden Globes have just wrapped up.  I only watched the last hour of the ceremony because the Globes no longer have their awards season power due to voting schedule changes.  Reading tweets and Facebook posts, it seems like it was a fairly entertaining show (keep an eye out for Jodie Foster‘s acceptance speech for her Lifetime Achievement Award).  As for the winners, they were very “Globes” in that they were more populist choices that are unlikely to have much bearing on the Oscars.  Argo may have had a good night at the Globes by winning Best Picture (Drama) and Best Director, but I still think Lincoln is the picture to beat when it comes to the Academy Awards, especially since Ben Affleck was snubbed for the Best Director Oscar nomination.

The Showtime comedy series House of Lies follows Marty Kaan (Don Cheadle) and his team of management consultants, who know how to play the corporate game better than anyone, by using every dirty trick in the book to woo powerful CEOs and close huge deals.  In Season 2, the team will not only be learning to adjust to the new Galweather Stern, after how the company was left at the end of last season, but Marty and his co-worker, Jeannie Van Der Hooven (Kristen Bell), will be trying to figure out exactly what happened during their very drunken night together.

While at the Showtime portion of the TCA Press Tour, show star/executive producer Don Cheadle talked about what’s in store for viewers this season, whether Marty and Jeannie will ever know exactly what happened between them, what he learned from Season 1 that has helped him with Season 2, that he enjoys being so involved with the production, and how he’s found the experience of getting to explore a character over a longer period of time.  He also talked about the challenges of juggling a film career with a TV show, what his hopes are for Iron Man 3, the fact that they’ll be doing re-shoots for the film next week in Manhattan Beach, the experience of working with director Shane Black, the surprise success of Flight, the status of the Miles Davis biopic, and what he’s currently working on with his production company.  Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Wang Xuequi Joins IRON MAN 3 as Additional Filming Begins in China; New Images Released

Since production details regarding director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 first started to trickle out back before filming began, we’ve known that Marvel has been planning to shoot some scenes in China.  This decision made perfect sense as the film’s villain, played by Ben Kingsley, was rumored to be the half-Chinese half-English comics character The Mandarin, and China’s DMG Entertainment was mulling a co-production deal with Marvel on the film.  Filming on the superhero sequel started up this past June in North Carolina, but throughout the long shoot filming never moved over to China.

Now it appears that, just five months out from release, Black and Co. are gearing up to do some additional filming in Beijing as Chinese actor Wang Xuequi has joined the cast.  Hit the jump for more details, including a couple of new images.

A Japanese trailer for director Shane Black’s upcoming sequel Iron Man 3 has landed online.  There doesn’t appear to be any substantial amount of new footage, but instead looks to be a different edit of the teaser trailer that debuted a few weeks ago.  This one plays up the post-Avengers aspect a bit more, and puts the action/destruction front and center.

Don Cheadle’s Captain Planet Grows Power-Hungry in Funny or Die Sequel Video

A little over a year ago, Don Cheadle took on the role of Captain Planet in a hilariously ridiculous Funny or Die video.  The spoof came hot on the heels of the news that a live-action adaptation of the Captain Planet animated series was in the works, and skillfully pointed out how horribly wrong that idea can go.  Cheadle has once again donned the tights for a sequel Captain Planet video, but this time the character has grown into an environmentally conscious dictator with a penchant for turning everyone into trees.  I actually think this one’s even funnier than the first video, and it features a nice return cameo from Efren Ramirez as the last remaining Planeteer.

Producer Kevin Feige Talks IRON MAN 3, How It Relates to THE AVENGERS, The Mandarin, Iron Patriot, and More

In addition to recent comments regarding the seriousness of Iron Man 3, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige also had plenty more to say about the film.  Speaking to Empire Magazine about Iron Man 3‘s relationship to The Avengers, Feige says the end of that movie has shaken Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) confidence.  “By the end of Avengers, when a portal is opened up in Manhattan and he’s met Thor and The Hulk and the Chitauri are coming down on him,” says Feige, “he realizes that he doesn’t know everything; we think that has had an effect on his psyche, and then his world is blown out from underneath him.”

Hit the jump for what Feige had to say about any cameos in Iron Man 3, adapting the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), why Rhodey (Don Cheadle) is wearing the Iron Patriot armor, and more.  Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3, 2013.

FLIGHT Review

I’ve seen two films that deal with alcoholism this year, and Robert ZemeckisFlight is the weaker of the two.  Earlier this year, I saw Smashed, an honest, unflinching look at a woman struggling to get sober.  In all fairness, Flight isn’t about the quest to get sober, as much as it brushes up against interesting notions of control.  Unfortunately, these notions become overshadowed as the film boils down the protagonist’s weakness into obvious plot points, character motivations, and a sermonizing finish that undermines the promise of a more textured, thoughtful story.

IRON MAN 3 Forges Ahead with Plans for American-Chinese Co-Production

China is already a huge market for American-made films, but looks to increase its purchasing power by expanding the number of American-Chinese co-productions in the coming year.  Chief among them is the Marvel movie Iron Man 3, which is currently filming.  However, a snafu occurred recently when questions were raised as to what exactly comprised a “co-production.”  The two sides hashed it out at a joint film summit held at UCLA on Monday and things look prosperous for the future.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Sir Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall and Jon Favreau, Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 is slated to open May 3rd, 2013.  Hit the jump for more on the American-Chinese co-production of Iron Man 3.

By now you’ve surely seen the first trailer for director Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow and Sir Ben Kingsley.  You might have even glanced at the collection of images we pulled from said trailer to get a closer look at the images hidden within.  Now, we’re going to take those images and speculate as to what they might mean for the plot.  What’s up with War Machine’s paint job? Why is Iron Man all up in people’s faces and being a sleep creep?  Why does an over-sized bunny appear to have an arc-reactor?  What’s the deal with the Mandarin’s rings? Marvel’s Kevin Feige has some insight to share on that last question.  Hit the jump to see the answers.

Iron Man 3, also starring Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, opens in 3D on May 3rd, 2013.

The first trailer for Shane Black‘s Iron Man 3 dropped earlier today, and it’s pretty great.  The big take away is that this looks to be a surprisingly dark entry into the series, especially for the wise-cracking Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.).  But there are also some cool details in the trailer you may have missed.   What’s with the tattoo on the back of the Mandarin’s neck?  What happened to poor Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau)?  Who is Iron Patriot beating up on?  There are also plenty of cool images that prove Black, even though he only directed one movie before this one (albeit an excellent one), knows how to shoot action.

Hit the jump to check out the images.  The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, and Ben KingsleyIron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3, 2013.
