Director John Hillcoat’s Prohibition era drama, Lawless, is set to release later this month, but we’ve got a few new social games to help pass the time until then. Set during the Depression, Lawless follows the bootlegging Bondurant family as they clash with the local law enforcement who wants a cut of their profits. The games let you get in a bare-knuckle fight, shoot your way out of a bad spot, select a period-appropriate nickname and play some good old fashioned drinking games. The new infographic also spotlights the “bad girls” of the era.
Lawless, starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, opens August 29th. Hit the jump to see the new infographic and play some games.

Some new images from two promising fall releases have surfaced. First up is new images from director John Hillcoat’s (The Road) prohibition-era drama Lawless. The film stars Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy, and Jason Clarke as three brothers who became bootleggers in the South during Prohibition. I caught the film at Comic-Con and thought it was great. The violence is brutal and hard-hitting, but the film is grounded with engaging characters and bits of dark humor. Moreover, Guy Pearce is terrifying as a corrupt FBI agent who’s obsessed with bringing the Bondurant brothers down. Lawless opens on August 31st, and I highly recommend checking it out.
Additionally, we’ve got a couple of new images from director Joe Wright’s (Hanna) adaptation of the classic Leo Tolstoy novel Anna Karenina. Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Aaron Johnson star in this visually impressive period pic that’s definitely high on my list of anticipated fall titles. Anna Karenina opens on November 16th. Tony Award-winner Jennifer Ehle (The King’s Speech) is in negotiations to join director Jose Padilha’s RoboCop remake. Thespian would be playing the role of Liz Kline in the film, per Deadline. Ehle’s addition is the most recent in a cast that includes Jackie Earle Haley, Hugh Laurie, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish and possibly Jay Baruchel. The remake of the 1987 Paul Verhoeven classic features Joel Kinnaman in the title role. Look for the RoboCop reboot to hit theaters on August 9th, 2013.

August is “National Moonshine Month” (not really) so it’s fitting that John Hillcoat’s new feature, Lawless, will debut at the end of it. To wet your whistle, we’ve got a couple of new posters for the Prohibition era flick, along with an infographic on the history of the spirit known as White Lightning. In addition, we’ve got soundtrack details for the film so that you can crank up the tunes while outrunning the law in your old jalopy.
Starring Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska, Lawless opens August 29th. Hit the jump to check out the posters, infographic and details on the soundtrack.

Filming has begun on Robert Luketic‘s thriller Paranoia. The film stars Liam Hemsworth as a telecom employee who is blackmailed by his boss into spying on a rival company. I don’t know if Hemsworth can lead a film, but he’s got a strong supporting cast backing him up on Paranoia. The film also stars Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford, Lucas Till, Amber Heard, Embeth Davidtz, Julian McMahon, Josh Holloway, and Richard Dreyfuss. While I think Hemsworth has leading man potential, I have far less faith in Luketic, whose previous films include 21, The Ugly Truth, and Killers. However, the corporate-espionage world of Paranoia is a far cry from anything else Luketic has done, so maybe he’ll have his first good film since his feature debut, 2001′s Legally Blonde.
Hit the jump for the press release, which includes the official synopsis. Paranoia is due out September 27, 2013.

Call me old-fashioned, but I like my Batman movies to have Batman in them. Writer-director Christopher Nolan has always had a peculiar relationship with the Dark Knight. His approach was to set the character in a “realistic” world, or at least a world as real as one can get with a man in a rubber suit fighting crime. Despite a seriously flawed third act, Batman Begins brought an interesting new take on the character by introducing an exploration of fear with regards to how it molded Bruce Wayne’s personality and became a weapon he used against his enemies. However, The Dark Knight started to shift away from Batman, and instead placed the emphasis on the supporting cast, namely The Joker, Harvey Dent, and James Gordon. The template felt bigger, the stakes were higher, and the canvas was grander, and yet Batman felt like he was competing to be a lead character in his own movie. With The Dark Knight Rises, Nolan has closed out his Batman trilogy with an intense, epic, grand conclusion filled with terrific performances, exhilarating action, thoughtful ideas, and almost no room for the caped crusader.

It’s safe to assume that close to 99% of this site’s readership will be sitting in a theater late tomorrow night, preparing to finally see the closing chapter in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Though we’re just one, long, excruciating day away from the release of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. has released yet another batch of images from the film just in case you weren’t already doubly excited to see the film. There’s nothing really revelatory here, but we do get some glimpses of what I can only assume is the highlight of the film: Mr. Matthew Modine.
Hit the jump to check out the images. As you well know, The Dark Knight Rises opens on July 20th.

The work of the marketing department for The Dark Knight Rises was clearly finished a couple days ago when Jimmy Fallon Pee-Wee Herman’d together his own teaser for the film. But instead of sending Fallon a “Thanks for guaranteeing us $200 mil” card and donating the rest of their promo budget to starving children, Warner Brothers has decided to keep dishing out little peeks of Bruce Wayne and co. all the way up to its July 20 opening. Now, keeping in mind that it contains no Paul Reubens-related content of any kind, does anybody want to see a pic of Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) firing a gun while taking cover beneath an unconscious man? Because we’ve got it…along with a bunch of other images from the Christopher Nolan epic (a couple of which we’ve seen before in lower-res form). No real Heinz Field-shaking info to be found in most of them. Highlights include Joseph Gordon-Levitt holding a gun, Michael Caine standing in a room clearly decorated from his eyes out, and Bane (Tom Hardy) bringing his reckoning to Gotham’s financial district. Hit the jump to check them out.

The Dark Knight Rises has released another clip in its related series of cast appearances on late night talk shows. We previously brought you this frank dialogue between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gary Oldman, followed by these two clips focusing on Anne Hathaway and Morgan Freeman. Today’s clip once again focuses on the non-costumed version of the characters, giving a good amount of backstory to go along with the action sequences. Snippets of it were previously seen in trailers, but now we have a little more context to go along with it. Starring Christian Bale, The Dark Knight Rises opens in IMAX July 20th. Hit the jump for the new clip and a recap of all of our coverage so far.

After a new trailer, TV spot and IMAX poster for The Dark Knight Rises debuted earlier today, we now have the first clip from the movie to share with you. While a lot of attention is spent on Batman (Christian Bale), Bane (Tom Hardy) and Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), the first clip highlights a conversation between Officer John Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Commissioner Gordon (Gary Oldman). While some of you may be suffering from The Dark Knight Rises marketing fatigue, this clip shines a Bat-signal on a nice slow-burn of dialogue.
Director Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, also starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Marion Cotillard, opens in IMAX on July 20th. Hit the jump to check out the first clip.

Easy Money (aka Snabba Cash), from director Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), is a Swedish crime thriller based on the international best-selling novel by Jens Lapidus, now being presented in the U.S. by Martin Scorsese. The story follows JW (Joel Kinnaman), a lower-class business student living a double life with Stockholm’s wealthy elite. To keep up his lifestyle, he finds himself in deep with the dark world of organized crime and in an intensely dramatic struggle for life and death.
For the film’s press day, Collider spoke to actor Joel Kinnaman (The Killing), in both a roundtable and a 1-on-1 interview, about what it’s like to finally have U.S. audiences get to see the 2010 film, his desire to tell stories in the moral grey zone, how he finally ended up landing the role of JW, and what he finds most appealing about acting. He also talked about taking on a film with as much attention as the RoboCop re-imagining, how proud he is to have the opportunity to work with Gary Oldman, how surreal it is that the film already has a viral campaign, that he wants to do as much of his stunts as he can, how he felt about the Season 2 finale of his AMC drama series The Killing, and his hopes for a Season 3. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

Entitled “Journey”, the latest trailer pulls clips from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight before showing how Bane’s arrival in Gotham will force Batman to join an all-out street war. There are some new pieces of footage in this trailer, but it doesn’t look like there are any major spoilers.
