PSA Sunday: He-Man and She-Ra Talk About Inappropriate Touching

by     Posted: November 20th, 2011 at 11:56 am

I believe it was sometime in the mid-1980s when TV producers decided that their programming was a suitable replacement for actual parenting. As a child of that experimental era, I would spend roughly 25 minutes at a clip watching my cartoon heroes beat the crap out of villains, followed by a thirty-second PSA of them telling me that violence wasn’t the answer. Mixed messages?

While it’s great to look back on the PSAs of my childhood, sometimes they crop up with a certain amount of dark irony in lieu of current events. Take this clip from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe in which He-Man, She-Ra and Orko want to talk to you about something that’s very personal…your body. Hit the jump to hear their “touching” message and click here for our previous PSA Sunday videos.

PSA Sunday: How to Talk to Your Kids About STAR WARS

PSA How to Talk to Your Kids About STAR WARS slice

“We’re going to keep her Jar Jar Binks free for as long as possible.”

With the Star Wars movies finally hitting Blu-ray, many parents are grappling with the decision on how to show their kids the Star Wars movies.  Should they start with The Phantom Menace? Should they start with A New Hope?  Also, how much should they tell their kids about the Skywalker family before actually showing them the movies?  While I normally use PSA Sunday’s to showcase a funny PSA featuring TV or movie characters and/or celebrities telling you not to do something, I think the debate on how and when to show your kids the Star Wars movies is something that at least a few people are thinking about.

So if you’re a parent and wondering what to do, hit the jump and watch some dads discuss how they will talk to their kids about Star Wars.  Also, I’d love to hear what some of you have done with your kids, as I have a few nephews and am wondering what I should do myself.  Please leave your thoughts in the comments.

With news being slow on the weekends, a few nonths ago I started PSA Sunday.  As you can probably deduce from the title, every Sunday I post a PSA featuring TV or movie characters and/or celebrities.  The first few focused on vintage Star Wars PSA’s (the Cantina aliens in a “Friends don’t let friends drive drunk” campaign, C3P0 and R2D2 talking about the dangers of whooping cough, and C3PO/R2D2 warning you about smoking), Clint Eastwood telling you not to do crack cocaine, the Transformers warning kids about running away from home and not to bike without reflectors, and the last two weeks featured Nathan Fillion talking about Swamp Ass and Kaley Cuoco addressing an important issue affecting cosplay girls across the globe: Slave Leia fatigue.

For this weekend’s PSA, I’ve got Yvonne Craig (Batgirl) addressing the equal pay laws from the 60′s.  The PSA also stars Adam West and Burt Ward and it was made for the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division.  Hit the jump to watch.
