Ridley Scott’s Daughter Replaces Him as Director on GUCCI; Penelope Cruz in Talks for Lead

by     Posted 250 days ago

The upcoming film Gucci, about the luxury Italian fashion house, has become a family affair both on and offscreen, as Ridley Scott‘s daughter Jordan Scott has replaced him as director of the story about Maurizio Gucci, grandson of the brand’s founder, and heir to the empire, who was gunned down in 1995.

The real starring role of the film though is that of Maurizio’s wife Patrizia, who in 1999 was jailed for ordering that murder of her husband.  The part was formerly tied to Angelina Jolie a few years ago when the elder Scott was directing, but now focus has shifted to Penelope Cruz.  For more on the project and how Gucci has a surprising link to Hollywood, hit the jump.

Ridley Scott Refused to Do an Extended Cut for PROMETHEUS Blu-ray; Jon Spaihts Reveals Details about His Original Script

by     Posted 254 days ago

prometheus-slice

One of the most frustrating things about Prometheus is its potential.  There are simply too many plot holes (which, admittedly, I didn’t notice when I saw the film; I was wrapped up in the visuals, performance, and strength of Ridley Scott‘s direction).  The fact that the marketing for the Blu-ray has had to be “Questions Will Be Answered” is preposterous.  This isn’t Lost.  This is a movie, and either the questions should have been answered or they should purposely be left ambiguous.  Looking back on Prometheus, I’ve wondered if the more fulfilling picture is out there either in a director’s cut or in screenwriter Jon Spaihts‘ original script.

Hit the jump for why we won’t be seeing the director’s cut, but we can learn a bit more about what Spaihts intended before screenwriter Damon Lindelof came on board.  Prometheus hits DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray tomorrow.

PROMETHEUS Blu-ray Easter Egg Reveals BLADE RUNNER Connection?

Seventy years separate the timelines of Ridley Scott’s directorial efforts Blade Runner and Prometheus, but a new Easter Egg suggests the plots take place in the same world. Available on DVD/Blu-ray in just a couple of days,  Prometheus will have a special feature that reveals a few lines of text supposedly written by Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce).  The text, which you can read after the jump, talks about Weyland’s mentor, a creator of synthetic lifeforms who will be instantly familiar to fans of Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic, Blade Runner.  This may be a simple nod to the fans that connects Scott’s works or perhaps it hints at a potential crossover in the planned sequel to Blade Runner Hit the jump to check out the Easter Egg.

PROMETHEUS Blu-ray Trailer Promises Questions Will Be Answered; Ridley Scott Says SOCIAL NETWORK Convinced Him to Shoot on RED

Though we previously saw a leak of some possible special features and specs, the official details regarding the Blu-ray release of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus have finally been unveiled.  Two versions of the film will be available: a basic, 2-disc Blu-ray, and a special features-packed 4-disc collector’s edition.  The collector’s edition includes both the 2D and 3D versions of the film as well as a DVD and digital copy, but the real treasure is in the extras.  A whopping seven hours of special features are included on the collector’s edition including two sets of commentaries (yes, Damon Lindelof did one), 15 minutes of deleted scenes, and five featurettes.

A Blu-ray trailer has landed online that teases the multitude of extras, and it promises that “questions will be answered.”  In the video we see Scott tease that we’ll “find out who this race was” in the sequel to Prometheus, and some hotly discussed issues (such as whether this is the same planet as in Alien) are addressed.  Moreover, another video has surfaced in which Scott explains that seeing The Social Network convinced him to shoot Prometheus using the RED camera.  Hit the jump for much more.

Another day, another batch of blurry set photos featuring some of your favorite barely recognizable stars.  Today, we have our first look at Kick-Ass 2 star Christopher Mintz-Plasse in costume as The Motherfucker.  He doesn’t appear to be dressed in the same black-and-orange duds we saw him in at the end of Kick-Ass, but it’s hard to get a decent look in these lo-res images.  We’ve also got first looks at Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor.  I didn’t think it possible, but Bardem looks even stranger here than he does in Skyfall.  Maybe it’s just the pocket-fan.  Hit the jump to check out the set photos.

Though debate over the merits/meanings/plot holes of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus will likely continue for some time, the film has been out of theaters for a while now.  The Blu-ray/DVD release is looming closer, and a mysterious new video has cropped up online that’s not dissimilar from the viral videos we saw in anticipation of the theatrical release.  Over thirty seconds of some sort of code or transmission stuff is followed by footage of Idris Elba in character as Captain Janek preparing for a mission.  I really have no idea what to make of this, but I’m sure some keen-eyed fan will uncover its secrets soon enough.

Hit the jump to check out the video.  Click here to check out the details on what special features will be included on the Prometheus Blu-ray when it hits shelves on October 11th.

PROMETHEUS Sequel Targeted for 2014 or 2015 Release; Damon Lindelof May Not Return

It looks as if the Prometheus sequel is indeed moving forward.  Anticipation for Ridley Scott’s Alien-esque sci-fi pic was at a fever pitch when the film hit theaters, but reaction was enthusiastically polarized.  Some loved that Scott left many questions unanswered and tackled large ideas, while others were distracted by the script’s plot holes and ridiculously inept scientists.  I fell somewhere in between, but I’d by lying if I said I wasn’t interested in seeing where Scott plans to go for the follow-up.

Fresh off the film’s healthy box office take (especially for an R-rated sci-fi movie), Fox has now revealed that they are actively moving forward with the Prometheus sequel, and screenwriter Damon Lindelof may not be returning this time around.  Hit the jump for more.

First Image of Brad Pitt on the Set of Ridley Scott’s THE COUNSELOR

by     Posted 324 days ago

The Counselor is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2013.  Ridley Scott is directing, the film marks the screenwriting debut of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy (No Country for Old Men, The Road), and the cast is insane: Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, and Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris.  The story centers on an attorney (Fassbender) who gets in over his head when he teams with Bardem’s character to sell $20 million worth of cocaine.  Though this may seem a simple premise, we can reasonably expect a great deal of depth given that this comes from the mind of McCarthy.

Production is now firmly underway and the first image of Pitt on the London set has hit the web.  This marks a reteaming of sorts for the actor and his Thelma and Louise director, and in this first image Scott looks to have Pitt back in the cowboy hat.  Hit the jump to take a look and to see what Pitt had to say about his involvement in the film.

Ridley Scott is adding yet another project to his immense docket, but this time he’ll only be involved as a producer.  Scott is teaming up with screenwriter Steven Zaillian (Schindler’s List, Moneyball) to produce a reimagining of BBC’s pseudo-documentary The Day Britain Stopped.  The original film, which could aptly be described as a faux-documentary, centered around a fictional disaster that is set into motion when Britain’s transport system melts down.  Hit the jump for more, including an embed of the original film.

Director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi pic Prometheus opened early last month as one of the year’s most anticipated films.  Though some weren’t exactly thrilled with the finished product, the amount of debate over the film’s true meanings, unanswered questions, Alien connections, and common sense-impaired scientists has been immense and unending.  The pic is set to hit Blu-ray later this year, at which point further debate is sure to ensue.  An unofficial full list of extras included on the home video release have landed online, and just as Scott previously mentioned to Steve, they include a significant amount of deleted scenes.

In addition to 15 minutes of deleted or alternate scenes and the entirety of the film’s viral material (including the full Peter Weyland TED Talk), the disc includes a text document of the first and final draft of the script by Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts.  Hit the jump for much more, including details on a 9-disc collection of every Alien film up to and including Prometheus.

Yet another interesting tidbit from that sci-fi film that people are still debating has come to light.  We recently got a look at an unseen alien from Prometheus courtesy of some behind-the-scenes images, and we also shared a couple of featurettes that reveal how the opening sequence of Ridley Scott’s thriller was created.  Now some information has come to light that answers one of the more pressing questions audiences were left with when the film ended: what exactly did David say to the Engineer towards the end of the film?
