It’s hard to follow up the perfection that was last week’s episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead. With the kills, casualties, twists and turns of “Killer Within,” we expected a much more subdued, character-driven episode this week. That’s exactly what we got. I’ll save the spoilers for after the jump, but it’s safe to say that our survivors are busy dealing with the loss of some of their teammates and the addition of others. The contrast between Rick’s prison gang and the Governor’s quaint town of Woodbury is still present and strong, but the line is quickly blurring.
Starring Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Chandler Riggs, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Laurie Holden, Danai Gurira, David Morrissey, Michael Rooker, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson and Emily Kinney, AMC’s The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9. I was completely blown away by how far the fourth episode of AMC’s The Walking Dead decided to go. This was an unbelievable episode that showcased everything the fans have asked for and then some: dramatic character development, incredible tension across the board, plenty of gore to go around and more than its fair share of heartbreak. My only complaint with this brilliant episode is, being this early in the season, how can they hope to top it?

Last week on The Walking Dead, we saw Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the crew deal with a life-threatening injury to one of their own, a prison swarming with Walkers and the arrival of a group of strangers that did not have the best of intentions. We’ll have to wait at least another week to see how they’re doing because tonight’s episode is all about Andrea (Laurie Holden) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). We also get a great introduction to season three’s most anticipated new character and a warm welcome for a character from the past. Last week, we got a a good look at our zombie apocalypse survivors working as a team in the season three premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC. The crew stormed a prison, cleared the grounds of Walkers and prepared to hole up in the secure and defensible cell blocks. Unfortunately, one of their own took a Walker bite to the ankle in the process and the gang found out that they were not the only survivors seeking refuge in the prison. The second episode, “Sick,” picks up right where we left off. After the solid opening episode, the follow-up has managed to ratchet up the tension while satiating the audience’s appetite for Walker (and non-Walker) deaths alike. The hit AMC drama series The Walking Dead is back for Season 3, with higher stakes, more threatening human villains and, of course, plenty of zombies. When things pick back up, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors continue to seek refuge, this time in an abandoned prison, but soon discover that there are greater forces to fear than just the walking dead. The struggle to survive has never been so perilous, especially considering that Rick’s wife, Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies), is close to the due date of her pregnancy. The show also stars Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Norman Reedus, Chandler Riggs, Lauren Cohan, Scott Wilson, IronE Singleton, Melissa McBride, Danai Gurira and David Morrissey.
At the show’s press day, showrunner Glen Mazzara and writer Robert Kirkman (who also created the comic book) talked about how open the writers’ room is to changes from the comic book, which change they were most nervous about fan reaction to, the main themes of Season 3, shooting the opening sequence for the season with no dialogue, keeping the mystery of Michonne (Gurira), why Daryl (Reedus) is so much fun to write for, whether or not the show could survive if you killed off all of the original characters, and why it’s important for them to reinvent the conventions of television. Check out what they had to say after the jump, and be aware that there are some spoilers.

It’s finally here: the season three premiere of The Walking Dead on AMC (but not on Dish…I promise that’s the last time I’ll say that). The last season found our survivors of the zombie apocalypse holed up at the Greene family barn for the duration, until a host of walkers (and some dramatic deaths) drove them from the land. Tonight’s opener showed us that the long winter has hardened the team into a well-oiled machine, but they’re in dire need of shelter for a very pregnant Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies). Hit the jump to check out our recap and review, plus bonus items like body counts, best kill, best zombie/effect and number of casualties in the season three premiere of AMC’s The Walking Dead.

Tonight, the third season of The Walking Dead premieres. The show seems poised to make it to the next level with fan-favorite storylines from the books finally being used for the TV series. More importantly, the show now seems ready for these storylines by becoming a popular television series in its own right rather than coasting on name recognition and being the only zombie-horror show on television. At yesterday’s New York Comic-Con panel for the show, it was all about the fans and letting them pick the brains of the cast and creators before the walkers come shambling back into our homes.

We’re about a month away from the premiere of the third season of The Walking Dead on AMC, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait that long to go inside the infamous prison. In what’s sure to be the centerpiece of the upcoming season, the prison will act as a safehouse of sorts for our remaining heroes. But for how long? Well, before the living start staking claims and the dead start wandering its halls, The Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman is here to take us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the prison.

At tonight’s Saturn Awards, I was able to get a few minutes with The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on the red carpet. With the show currently shooting season 3 in Atlanta, Kirkman says they’re about to start filming episode eight, which is the mid-season finale. However, the big news for fans of the show came towards the end of the interview. With the show getting huge ratings around the world, I asked if that has led to an increase in the production budget. Kirkman said:
“I think you might see a few more dollars on the screen in the third season. It’s gonna be bigger.”
Needless to say, this is awesome news. Hit the jump for more.

Fresh off the release of issue #100 of The Walking Dead, Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard took the stage to chat with fans about the hugely successful graphic novel. There was no media presentation for the panel; rather the pair was handed the Inkpot Award for Excellence in Comics, after which they immediately opened up the floor for fan questions with the request that the audience avoid spoilers for the latest issue. During the panel, Kirkman and Adlard discussed their fondness for the television adaptation, potential plans for the end of the comic series, and how they would fare in a zombie apocalypse. There have been quite a few spoilery news tidbits concerning AMC’s The Walking Dead lately, but the one safe thing we can talk about right up front is the inclusion of the villainous Governor, played in the upcoming season by David Morrisey (The Reaping). As he plays the main antagonist (of the non-shambling variety) to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the gang, it’s probably a good thing to know where the third season of The Walking Dead is going to take us as far as the Governor is concerned. Showrunner Glen Mazzara recently addressed that question while shooting on location. I’ve done my best to keep this spoiler-free, but all bets are off after you hit the jump.
