Earlier this week, we reported that The Amazing Spider-Man world might be branching out to include the spin-off Venom even though the eponymous character doesn’t appear in Spidey’s movie. Instead, the plan would be to reverse engineer a future crossover a la The Avengers. However, this crossover would stay within Sony Pictures. We’re still waiting for studios to realize the mutual benefit of crossing over their Marvel properties, but it turns out that Sony and Disney almost made the first deal to do so.
Hit the jump to find out how The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers almost crossed over. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on July 3rd.

Venom fanboys have had to carry around the disappointment of seeing their favorite character shoved into the awful Spider-Man 3. However, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have never given up the ghost of the slobbering Spidey foe. As recently as this past March, we reported that Chronicle director Josh Trank was in talks to helm a new movie featuring the villain/anti-hero. However, how do you have Venom without Spider-Man and how do you have a Venom movie if the character isn’t in The Amazing Spider-Man?
Hit the jump for how Venom might fit into the new comic-book world The Amazing Spider-Man is spinning.

A new clip from The Amazing Spider-Man has gone online, and it made me realize something: in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man movies, Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) was always the damsel-in-distress. There was that time in Spider-Man 2 when she tried to smack Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) upside the head with a 2×4, and she got a face-full of sentient tentacle for her troubles. But this clip from The Amazing Spider-Man shows new love-interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) holding her own, and trying to save the people at the Oscorp lab before the Lizard (Rhys Ifans) comes to tear the place up.

The Australian trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man has gone online, and it contains a few bits of new footage. The new footage provides a little more humor (I love the gag with Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) tossing Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) out a window) and little more Curt Connors/Lizard (Rhys Ifans). The reboot is definitely turning into something where the more I see, the more I like, and I just really hope it all comes together.

Yesterday afternoon, Collider was invited, along with a handful of other outlets, to see the new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, due out in theaters on July 3rd. With summer movie season ramping up and so many highly anticipated blockbusters closer to their release dates, movie lovers are anxious for any glimpses they can get, and the spectacle in this re-imagined tale certainly promises a fun thrill ride. The cool thing about the trailer is that it also showcases the humanity, humor and romance while clearly having been designed for 3D.
After the trailer, director Marc Webb took some time to answer questions about the footage in the trailer and the film, overall. He talked about how much better the point of view looks now, the process for bringing The Lizard to life, balancing the spectacle with the humanity, finding the humor, playing the 3D as depth, whether he felt pressure to deliver another iconic kiss, that the final cut of the film is locked at about two hours (regardless of what’s been reported), and that he hasn’t been involved with anything having to do with a sequel, at this point. He also shared his thoughts on The Hobbit being shot in 48 fps. Check out what he had to say after the jump.

The new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man will go online later today, but before it does, Sony has released two new images of the film’s baddie, The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). For non-geeks, here’s a little background on the character: Dr. Curt Connors is a one-armed scientist who tries to use science (nothing good ever came of that!) to regrow his lost limb. The experiment goes horribly wrong, and Connors transforms into a horrible reptile monster.
Hit the jump to check out the images, click here for some new posters, and be sure to keep checking back for the trailer later today. The film also stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Denis Leary, Sally Field, and Martin Sheen. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd.

If you’re a regular around these parts on the weekends you may have noticed that Collider was “Top 5-less” last Saturday. For the first time since our inaugural installment last May, the weekly feature failed to grace the site. The reason? My bachelor party. That’s right, instead of spending my Saturday morning/afternoon putting together a highlight reel of coverage from the preceding week, I gallivanted through the streets of Chicago partaking in debauchery in its most primal form (i.e. arcade games and karaoke). All this in mind, a big thank you to Steve and the rest of the Collider team and to you, the reader, for the excused absence is in order. It’s good to be back.
In this week’s edition you’ll find new posters and new footage from The Amazing-Spider Man courtesy of the film’s latest international trailer, the first trailer and poster for Steven Soderbergh‘s male-stripper inspired Magic Mike, the first look at Anthony Hopkins as The Master of Suspense in Hitchcock, a set photo/video recap featuring, among other things, Star Trek 2 and Les Miserables, and Matt’s superhero film editorial which begs the question, “Why So Serious?” (see what I did there?). As always, a brief recap and link to each can be found after the jump.

Following on the heels of the International trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, two new posters for the film has gone online. The posters continues to emphasize the break from Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man movies by playing up the darker and grittier elements of director Marc Webb‘s reboot. The bright colors of the Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 posters are gone, and in their place is a very pissed-off looking wall-crawler.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. The film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, and Sally Field. The Amazing Spider-Man opens in 3D on July 3rd.

The ads for the Spider-Man reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, are billing the film as “The Untold Story”. The wall-crawler’s origin story is being changed up, and director Marc Webb has taken on a slightly darker tone with his film adaptation of the popular superhero. Webb has now revealed that the new origin story won’t be contained to one movie.

The viral campaign for Marc Webb‘s The Amazing Spider-Man continues onward. The previous viral website, “Mark of the Spider-Man”, recently posted a fake news segment of NYPD Captain Stacy (Denis Leary) speaking to Daily Bugle TV. Sadly, Daily Bugle Editor-in-Chief J. Jonah Jameson isn’t in the reboot, but Stacy preaches from the same book when he says, “What kind of hero wears a mask?” The video has Stacy telling viewers a hotline they can call if they see Spider-Man. The number is 877-651-8503, but it will just tell you to go to the website webbedmenace.com, which is where people can go and upload pictures of Spider-Man.

The new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man debuted late last night, giving us a much better look at what to expect from Marc Webb’s franchise reboot. We got peeks at blinking webshooters, wise-crackin’ Spidey, and most importantly, The Lizard. I was quite impressed with the trailer, and I’m sincerely hoping that Webb is bringing us a fresh take on the character. While I’m wary of going the origin route once again, Andrew Garfield‘s charisma and a new spin on the story give me reason to hope for the best. We’ve gone frame-by-frame through the new trailer and have grabbed over 25 images from the superhero reboot, giving us a closer look at The Lizard, the webshooters, and Spidey in action. Hit the jump to check them out.

Last night, Sony Pictures released a new trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man. We should no longer trust trailers to be just trailers. New policy: when it comes to blockbuster movies, watch the trailer in HD and then go through frame-by-frame for a hint of a viral campaign. That may sound crazy, but that’s what you had to do if you wanted to catch the beginning of the viral campaign for The Amazing Spider-Man.

Taking over the Spider-Man film franchise is already a major challenge, but director Marc Webb ((500) Days of Summer) has to take the character back to his origins and do so in a way that distinguishes his take as different from Sam Raimi‘s. The posters for The Amazing Spider-Man have been vaunting an “Untold Story”, and part of that is making this Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) a little darker and more realistic. In a recent interview, Webb talked about the “trickster” aspect of the new Spider-Man and what we can expect regarding the film’s tone.
