Paramount Pictures has released a new teaser trailer for director Adam McKay’s sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.  Much like the initial teaser trailer that was unveiled before the film even began production, this trailer doesn’t show any actual footage. In fact, it actually looks like it may have been shot at the same time as that initial teaser, but it’s no less hilarious.  We get individual greetings from Will FerrellDavid KoechnerPaul Rudd, and Steve Carell all in character, but unsurprisingly it’s Carell’s Brick who steals the show.  This movie cannot get here fast enough.

If you missed the red-band trailer for director Paul Middleditch’s horror comedy Rapture-Palooza, you can check out the newly-released toned-down version here.  There’s only a little bit of new footage and it keeps the same jokes from the first trailer (minus the profanity), but star Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) is certainly worth a second look, don’t you think?  She plays the object of affection sought after by the Anti-Christ (Craig Robinson) when the Rapture befalls Seattle.  Her boyfriend (John Francis Daley) will do anything he can to stop her from becoming Satan’s bride.

Also starring Rob Corddry, Rob Huebel, Paul Scheer, Thomas Lennon, Ana Gasteyer, John Michael HigginsTyler Labine and Ken Jeong,  Rapture-Palooza opens in theaters and on VOD June 7th.  Hit the jump for the green-band trailer, image, synopsis and poster.

Full Trailer for DEXTER’s Eighth and Final Season

dexter-season-8-slice

Showtime has released a full trailer for the upcoming eighth and final season of the drama series Dexter.  The trailer shows how the events of last season’s finale will reverberate throughout this new batch of episodes, and we’re also introduced to a new character that could finally spell the end for Michael C. Hall’s Dexter and his secret-keeping.  There are some promising bits to be found in this new trailer, but I’m a little apprehensive about how Jennifer Carpenter’s Deb is handled.  It looks like Deb’s arc could get really repeptetive really quickly, not to mention being a tad grating.  Nevertheless, I’m interested to see how the producers pave the wave for the conclusion of the long-running series.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer, which includes spoilers for season (obviously).  Season eight of Dexter premieres on Showtime Sunday, June 30th at 9pm ET/PT.

New Trailer for Sci-Fi Horror Film EUROPA REPORT Starring Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, and Embeth Davidtz

by     Posted: May 17th, 2013 at 11:40 am

Magnolia Pictures has released the first trailer for the new sci-fi film Europa Report.  Directed by Sebastian Cordero, the film follows a contemporary mission to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate the possible existence of alien life.  Naturally, when the crew lands on the surface and starts digging below the ice, they find themselves in dire circumstances.  The film isn’t exactly found footage, but most of the pic is framed using cameras inside the spacecraft, on the external vehicles, and in documentary-style interviews with the crew members.  The practical effects approach is definitely impressive, and there’s a strong horror undercurrent that looks to be quite effective.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film stars Sharlto Copley, Michael Nyqvist, Christian Camargo, Embeth Davidtz, Dan Fogler, Anamaria Marinca, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Karolina Wydra, and Daniel WuEuropa Report will be available on iTunes on June 27th and hits theaters on August 2nd.

Trailer for Nick Murphy’s Crime-Thriller BLOOD Starring Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, Brian Cox, and Mark Strong

I really enjoyed Nick Murphy‘s directorial debut, The Awakening, and back in 2011, we reported on his follow-up, the crime-thriller Blood.  The plot centers on two policemen who kill a murder suspect and are then plunged into chaos when they are forced to investigate their own crime.  I’m ashamed to admit that I had forgotten about the movie, but now a trailer has been released, and it looks like Murphy has nailed the genre just like he did with gothic horror in The Awakening.  Also, I’m not going to turn down a movie with a lead cast that includes Paul Bettany, Stephen Graham, Brian Cox, and Mark Strong.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  Blood is set to hit U.K. theaters and VOD on May 31st, and be released on Blu-ray & DVD on June 10th.  That short release window isn’t a great sign, but I’m still eager to see the flick, and hopefully a U.S. release will be announced soon.

New Red-Band Trailer for THE HANGOVER PART III

Warner Bros. has released a new red-band trailer for director Todd Phillips’ comedy sequel The Hangover Part III.  The film acts as the trilogy capper to the popular franchise, and finds Stu (Ed Helms), Phil (Bradley Cooper), and Doug (Justin Bartha) en route to taking Alan (Zach Galifianakis) to a psychiatric hospital when the gang is side-trekked by a mysterious man (John Goodman) who kidnaps Doug and forces the wolf pack to track down Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), who stole $21 million from Goodman’s character.  The first half of this new trailer is a recap of the events from the first two films, and when we finally delve into new footage it kind of feels like we’ve seen the whole movie already.  A highlight of the red-band trailer, though, is the return of Mike Epps as “Black Doug.”

CBS Films has released the first trailer for director Jon Turtletaub’s (National Treasure) upcoming comedy Last Vegas.  The film stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline as four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single (Douglas).  This teaser trailer sells the film hard as “The Hangover with old guys,” but despite the forced premise, Last Vegas actually looks like it could be kind of fun.  All four of the lead actors are Academy Award winners, and it’s interesting to see someone like Freeman just completely let loose and go full-on comedy.

New Promo for Disney’s PLANES Highlights the Film’s Impressive Animation

by     Posted: May 16th, 2013 at 11:26 am

Disney has released a new promo video for its upcoming animated film Planes.  While not a trailer per se, the promo shows off a bunch of footage from the film but none of the dialogue.  Instead, we’re greeted with a sampling of composer Mark Mancina’s music from the film.  Originally slated for a direct-to-video release, Disney only recently made the decision to release Planes theatrically.  While it appears to take place in the same universe as Cars, Pixar is not involved with the pic creatively.  The most recent trailer was pretty painful and the notion of Dane Cook leading the voice cast isn’t exactly promising, but the visuals sure do look great in this new promo.

Hit the jump to watch the video.  The film also features the voices of Val Kilmer,Anthony EdwardsStacy Keach, Cedric the Entertainer, Teri Hatcher, Brad Garrett, Roger Craig Smith, Gabriel Iglesias, Carlos Alazraqui, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, John Cleese, Priyanka Chopra, Sinbad, Brent Musburger, and Colin Cowherd.  Planes opens in 3D on August 9th.

New Trailer for Guillermo Del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM

Another trailer has been released for Guillermo Del Toro‘s Pacific Rim.  The story is kicked off by the emergence of monsters (known as Kaiju) who start a war that devastates humanity.  To fight back, humans build giant robots (known as Jaegers) that are controlled by two pilots.  The latest trailer explains how the Jaegers work, but the main focus is the scale of the kaiji-vs-jaeger battles.  Nothing is really spoiled here, and watching this in a YouTube player is almost a disservice to the size of the action.  I still can’t wait to see this flick up on the big screen.

Teaser Trailer for BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS

The first teaser trailer for the video game Batman: Arkham Origins has been released online.  Following Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the prequel Origins takes place in an open world Gotham City environment in which eight of the world’s deadliest assassins gather in Gotham on Christmas Eve under direct orders by the Black Mask to kill Batman.  This trailer does a nice job of teasing a brutal fight from the game, and while I’m eager to delve back into the open world environment that was so excellently executed in the previous two games, I’m a little dubious given that Rocksteady Studios—which developed Asylum and City—is not involved with Arkham Origins in any way.  Instead, Warner Bros. Games Montreal is behind Arkham Origins and Eric Holmes takes over the lead designer chair from Sefton Hill, who oversaw the previous two games.

The first red-band trailer for horror anthology V/H/S/2 is now available along with a couple of new images.  There’s plenty of blood, boobs and scares to warrant the red-band tag on this particular trailer.  We get glimpses of group suicides, exploding bodies, monstrous creatures and lots and lots of aliens.  Looks like a worthy successor to the original and it’s only a few weeks away!

Directed by Simon Barrett, Adam Wingard, Edúardo Sanchez, Gregg Hale, Timo Tjahjanto, Gareth Huw Evans and Jason Eisener, V/H/S/2 will be on iTunes/On Demand June 6, 2013 and in theaters July 12, 2013.  Hit the jump to watch the trailer and check out some new stills from the film.

Teaser Trailer for RIO 2 Featuring the Voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, and Andy Garcia

by     Posted: May 15th, 2013 at 11:19 am

20th Century Fox has unveiled a teaser trailer for the animated sequel Rio 2, and if you’re a fan of dancing birds, then this clip is for you.  The film finds Anne Hathaway and Jesse Eisenberg reprising their voice roles as Jewel and Blu, with the couple packing up their three kids and leaving the city for a journey into the Amazon.  Naturally, they encounter a host of colorful characters both friendly and villainous, with Andy Garcia, Rita Moreno, Bruno Mars, and Kristin Chenoweth joining the voice cast.  The trailer doesn’t show any of the aforementioned plot at all, but instead focuses on bright colors, samba music, and dancing.

New Trailer, Poster, and Images for RIDDICK Starring Vin Diesel

by     Posted: May 15th, 2013 at 10:37 am

Universal Pictures has released a new trailer, images, and a debut poster for writer/director David Twohy’s Riddick.  The Chronicles of Riddick follow-up finds the titular character, played by Vin Diesel, left for dead on a deserted planet filled with predators both alien and human, as bounty hunters once again are out for Riddick’s head.  Clocking in at two and a half minutes long, this trailer shows off much more footage than the first teaser, but there’s not much revealed by way of plot.  In fact, it really looks as though one could comfortably watch Riddick without having seen the first two films in the series and be completely onboard.  With Karl Urban returning, though, one imagines there’s at least a small throughline that connects Riddick with Chronicles.  Though some of the effects are a bit spotty, if you’re a fan of the character and/or the first two films, this trailer promises that Riddick is likely right up your alley.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer, poster, and images.  The film also stars Katee SackhoffDavid BautistaJordi Mollà, Matt Nable, Bokeem Woodbine, Raoul Trujillo, and Nolan Gerard Funk.  Riddick opens in traditional theaters and IMAX on September 6th.

IFC Films has released the trailer and poster for Peter Strickland‘s thriller Berberian Sound Studio.  The film stars Toby Jones as a sound engineer who has come to Italy to work on a horror film.  Once there, he finds the project in disarray, and begins to feel a sense of tension from the picture as well as the working conditions.  The movie isn’t without merit, but it will likely appeal more to fans of giallo cinema.  I caught the flick at Fantastic Fest last year, and while I enjoyed Jones’ performance and the intensity of the direction, it couldn’t make up for a dull story.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  Berberian Sound Studio will be released in theaters, on VOD, and on iTunes on June 7th.

Working Title has released the first trailer for director Richard Curtis’ (Love Actually) new film About Time.  The pic puts a time travel spin on the classic romantic comedy conceit, as Domnhall Gleeson (Bill Weasley from Harry Potter) plays a man who has inherited the ability to travel through time from his father (Bill Nighy).  Naturally, Gleeson’s character uses his time travel prowess to woo the girl of his dreams (Rachel McAdams), but as with all time travel stories, the powers come with grave consequences.  Curtis has a knack for making familiar stories interesting and endearing, and About Time looks to be no different.  I like the earnestness with which the film is approached, and Gleeson seems poised to break out in a big way.
