Hit the jump to watch.

Joeseph Kosinski‘s new Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman starrer Oblivion is the rarest of all things, a big budget scifi film aimed squarely at adults. While the trailers might seem like they give away the whole movie, I assure you they only scratch the surface. Things get really weird and far more ambitious than the I Am Legend-style one sheet implies.
Last week Collider sat down with Freeman to discuss his small but pivotal role. During the interview, Freeman talked about the difficulty of always being a world leader in films, getting a demotion in Olympus has Fallen, what he looks for in a role, the importance of yawning, how to get a more mellifluous voice and much.

Over the past eight years I’ve interviewed a lot of directors, and I’ve always wanted to shake up the format. After all, almost every interview you read in print or online consists of a lot of the same questions and answers, and I wanted to offer the readers of Collider something different. After a bit of brainstorming, I decided to do an interview series that allows a director to talk about what they do in greater detail: directing. Instead of focusing on the basic questions (why they cast a certain actor in a role or how tough it was to land financing) this new interview series – which I’m calling “Breaking Down the Movie” – will showcase a director speaking at length about specific footage from their movie and explaining how and why they made key decisions on set. And for episode 1 I landed The Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance.
During the interview Cianfrance breaks down a few clips from his film and talks about how he likes to shoot a scene, the amount of improv, how many takes were used, the look of Ryan Gosling‘s character and how that affected his performance, the benefit of shooting out of chronological order and shooting a take without dialogue, trying to shoot with real people in the background, future projects, and a lot more. Shortly before world premiering Monsters University at CinemaCon, I was able to speak with director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae on the red carpet. We talked about the way the story changed during development, how many versions of the film they went through, how John Lasseter kept reminding them that it was “college fun,” and more. In addition, they also showed they have a sense of humor, because I may have started the interview off by asking whether it was tough to get Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton back for the sequel to Monsters Ball…
Finally, while I had to miss the screening of Monsters University due to my interview schedule, I spoke to a number of people that saw it and they all said it was great and is exactly what they expect from a Pixar movie. Hit the jump to watch the interview. Monsters University hits theaters June 21st.

Yesterday at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Walt Disney unveiled about twenty minutes of director Gore Verbinski‘s The Lone Ranger. Since I was on the red carpet waiting for the cast and filmmakers, I missed the screening. But talking to a few people that did see the footage, the consensus I heard was that it looked great and it was a lot better than all of them expected. If you want to judge some of the movie for yourself…watch the brand new trailer that was released yesterday.
Shortly after walking off the stage, I landed a red carpet interview with Verbinski. We talked about how he decided which footage to show the CinemaCon audience, how long his first cut ran, he reveals that he still doesn’t have a finished cut of the film and doesn’t know how long it’ll be, whether he will ever make another animated film, how much he loved doing Rango, and more. In addition, I asked if his adaptation of the graphic novel Pyongyang is his next film. Hit the jump to watch.

A few minutes before the Star Trek Into Darkness cast hit the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas, I landed a video interview with Alice Eve on the red carpet. While J.J. Abrams and Paramount have slowly been releasing more images and footage from the Star Trek sequel (click here to watch the new trailer), the cast is still very careful about saying anything specific about the anxiously awaited sequel. Knowing this before the interview started, I made sure to only ask questions she could answer like what it was like to film the bridge sequences first, working with the IMAX cameras, where she’ll be traveling to promote the film, what it means to be part of the Star Trek franchise, and you might even see a bit of singing with Zachary Quinto. Shortly after walking off the stage, I landed a red carpet interview with Armie Hammer. We talked about what he went through trying to land the role, how much the script changed along the way and the supernatural/werewolves rumors, filming the train sequence practically, how he can’t escape being asked about Justice League, and he reveals that he’s about to sign a contract for a new movie role. Shortly before producer Jerry Bruckheimer hit the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas to talk about The Lone Ranger (watch the new trailer here), I landed a short video interview with him on the red carpet backstage. Since I knew my time would be very limited, I decided to ask the most important question first: What will it take to get Bad Boys 3 made!
In addition to asking about a Bad Boys sequel, he also discussed his reaction to seeing the finished cut of The Lone Ranger, how they decided which footage to show at CinemaCon, and the status of Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and National Treasure 3. He says they’re working on scripts for both, with a team of writers working on National Treasure 3 and Ted Elliot/Terry Rossio and Jeff Nathanson writing Pirates 5. Hit the jump to watch.
