When it comes to Inferno, the third Dan Brown adaptation to be directed by Ron Howard, it's less that there's a new Dan Brown movie coming out than it is that there's a new Tom Hanks movie coming out. A new Tom Hanks movie with Felicity Jones, Ben Foster, Irrfan Khan, and Omar Sy no less. That's a pretty big deal in my book, even if I have found the last two Brown-Howard collaborations...let's say, less than inspired.

The script is courtesy of David Koepp, who also penned Angels & Demons, following the Akiva Goldsman-scripted The Da Vinci Code, and I must admit that this one looks a bit more purposefully pulpy than the last two. At least that's the feeling I get from what can be gleaned from the trailer tease for the film that Sony just released, which admittedly is not much. The turn of the narrative seems to be around a switch that, when thrown, kills half of the world's population but, in return, averts a doomsday event in 100 years. Decisions, decisions. We'll know more about the film tomorrow, when the full trailer for the adaptation hits the web, but for now, there's at least some hope that third time's a charm with these Brown-Howard films.

Here's the trailer teaser:

Here's the official synopsis for Inferno:

Academy Award® winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown's (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
