INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS Will Storm The Beach At Cannes

With all the talk of big summer blockbusters, I sometimes forget that – in addition to killer robots and enterprising star ships – the season will also be offering up the first Quentin Tarantino movie in God knows how long.

In case your calendars aren’t already marked, “Inglourious Basterds” will be opening on August 21st stateside. If you happen to live in France, however, you will have the opportunity to check out the “Basterds” in action in a little over a month.

Tarantino has accepted an offer from the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival to hold the world premiere of “Inglorious Basterds” during the festivities. Just one more reason to be angry and resentful of the French.

This year Cannes runs from May 13th through the 24th, and though Tarantino is still in post-production on his WWII opus, he has apparently assured the film’s backers that “Basterds” will be ready for its close-up.

The official Cannes event schedule will not be released until April 23rd, but what are the chances that the fest scores the first crack at a Tarantino movie and doesn’t make it the premiere event? About as likely as “Wolverine” winning the Palm d’Or.
