As with every Pixar movie, Inside Out went through a number of different iterations over the course of its development and production. The Pixar process is that every movie is fluid, and folks aren’t afraid to tear everything down and start anew if the film just isn’t working. Sometimes that results in radically different versions of the movie (Wall-E’s entire second and third act used to involve aliens, not humans), and sometimes it’s simply a process of finessing and fine-tuning things until they’re exactly right.

In anticipation of the release of Inside Out on Digital HD and Disney Movies Anywhere on October 13th, followed by a Blu-ray release on November 3rd, we’ve been provided with an exclusive deleted scene that will be included on the home video release. The scene in question (introduced by director Pete Docter) presents a slightly different iteration of Bing Bong—you know, that character who reduced you to a puddle of tears. In this version, Bing Bong was envisioned as a more extreme version of Joy, and he resembles a radical protester of sorts. It’s a funny scene, and another insightful look at the Pixar creative process.
