Focus Features has announced that the third installment in the Insidious horror franchise will be released in theaters on April 3, 2015.  We learned a few months ago that Leigh Whannell was returning to pen the script for Insidious: Chapter 3, but further details on the follow-up are still unknown.  James Wan directed the first two films to great success, but he has since expressed interest in trying his hand at other genres after this summer’s one-two horror punch of The Conjuring and Insidious: Chapter 2.  Indeed, he’s currently hard at work filming the action sequel Fast & Furious 7, so it’s unlikely he will return to helm Chapter 3.

Insidious: Chapter 3 is currently slated to open directly opposite the Keanu Reeves/Rachel McAdams sci-fi pic Passengers, which will mark Game of Thrones helmer Brian Kirk’s feature directorial debut.  Insidious: Chapter 2 earned $40 million on its opening weekend this past September and went on to gross a total of $148.8 million worldwide, which isn’t bad considering the total budget was $5 million.
