I already know that “Inglourious Basterds” has action scenes. I already know that Brad Pitt is chewing every piece of scenery he can find. I know what the Basterds do and I know what they plan to do (blow up a theatre where the Nazi high command is watching a moving picture). What I still don’t know is how Mélanie Laurent and Christoph Waltz’s character figure into this whole shebang. We see Waltz’ “Jew Hunter” briefly at the end but not long enough to really make an impression.
Of course, Universal and The Weinstein Company are going to go on selling this as Tarantino and Pitt and I can’t really blame them. That being said, I’m not sure how big they’re expecting this film to open and how much TWC needs it to open in order to save their company. Of course, since I don’t work for TWC, all I care about is whether or not I’ll dig this film. Judging from Tarantino’s track record, I’m guessing: probably.
Check out the trailer after the jump. “Inglourious Basterds” hits theatres on August 21st.
