We’ve come a long way since Twister’s flying cows.  We’ve already seen loads of destruction in the first two trailers for Steven Quale’s Into the Storm and also read quite a bit about it in Dave’s set visit reports, but now it’s time to get a sense of what just a single one of these tornados is capable of in the very first clip from the film.

When the town of Silverton is ravaged by a freak onslaught of twisters, Sarah Wayne Callies’ Allison, a meteorologist working alongside a team of storm chasers, is pretty much asking to have an up close and personal encounter with a vicious cyclone and, sure enough, she winds up getting closer than anyone.  Hit the jump to see what happens in the first Into the Storm clip.  The film will arrive in theaters on August 8th in 2D and IMAX, and also stars Richard Armitage, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-CareyArlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle DavisJon Reep, and Scott Lawrence.

Here’s the official synopsis for Into the Storm:

“In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs, and courageous townspeople, “Into the Storm” throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.”
