With the successful debut of Marvel's Jessica Jones on Netflix recently, fans of the TV versions of The Defenders have been wondering just when they'll hear more about the last piece of the puzzle: Iron FistDaredevil is already set to return for a second season next year, with Luke Cage expected to follow relatively soon after, but news has been quiet when it comes to Danny Rand. It seems like that's about to change soon since we now have word that Iron Fist has found its showrunner.

We recently brought you some quotes from Marvel Television chief Jeph Loeb about the state of Iron Fist and the decision to let Jessica Jones enjoy the spotlight before making any announcements regarding their most mysterious series to date. Though today's news isn't as sexy as a casting announcement or release date, it's certainly a step in the right direction towards learning more about Iron Fist.

As Comicbook.com and Heroic Hollywood report, veteran writer/producer Scott Buck will be Iron Fist's showrunner. Marvel confirmed as much in a press release appearing soon after the story broke. Buck worked as executive producer on the darkly tinted serial-killer series Dexter and as co-executive producer on the acclaimed drama Six Feet Under. In addition to overseeing those darker dramatic works from the realm of premium cable networks, Buck also showed his funny side as a supervising and consulting producer on the early 2000s comedy series Nikki and The Oblongs.

“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”

“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and “Iron Fist” to life with Marvel on Netflix,” said Buck.

Buck certainly has an interesting resume, but unfortunately we don't have much more than to go on as far as Iron Fist is concerned. We know that Daredevil and Luke Cage will grace your Netflix queue before Iron Fist makes his first live-action appearance, but it remains to be seen whether or not a new season of Jessica Jones will be added to the schedule in the interim. Either way, Iron Fist has to make his appearance before The Defenders can come together on the small screen, and possibly the big screen, too.

Here's how Marvel describes their Iron Fist series:

"Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist."
