At New York Comic-Con, Netflix released a new Iron Fist trailer. It doesn’t delve much into his character beyond “This guy is good at punching,” but it also announces the arrival of the final Defender. While I’m sure we’ll get more info on the show as it approaches its release date, I’m still trying to understand what makes Iron Fist interesting on a thematic level. There seems to be a lot of intrigue, but what does he have to wrestle with? What’s the universal issue he has to face? And what does he bring to a team that’s already got three good fighters? Luke Cage and Jessica Jones can also punch down doors.

That’s not to say this is a bad trailer. It hypes not only Iron Fist, but also The Defenders, so it’s two birds with one stone. It also makes me wonder how much Defenders marketing we’ll get concurrently with Iron Fist, or if the solo show will get the spotlight to itself before making its debut. Defenders is the culmination of the entire Marvel-Netflix plan, and obviously both companies want to hit that series out of the park since it has the potential to be their equivalent of The Avengers.

Check out the new Iron Fist trailer below. The show debuts all episodes on Netflix on March 17, 2017, and stars Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Lewis Tan, David Wenham, Tom Pelphrey and Jessica Stroup. For more on Iron Fist, click here for our press line interviews at New York Comic-Con.
