Marvel’s fourth Netflix series has begun production on the streets of New York City, which means the first Iron Fist set photos have arrived. The series follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage and is the fourth and final piece of the puzzle connecting Marvel’s Netflix universe, with the titular characters from each series poised to team up in the Avengers-style miniseries The Defenders. But before then, our first unofficial introduction to Iron Fist has arrived, and there’s a bit of a throwback vibe at hand.

Game of Thrones alum Finn Jones leads the cast as Danny Rand, a billionaire Buddhist monk and martial arts expert who returns to NYC after having been missing for years, now with an aim towards fighting corruption with a proficiency in kung fu and the power to call upon the Iron Fist.

As you’ll notice in these set photos, the bearded, homeless-looking Rand is sporting a first generation iPod. So either this iteration of Danny Rand is a mega-hipster, he’s been gone so long that he’s kept his original iPod with him this whole time, or the scenes being shot today are flashbacks.

The Marvel series has Scott Buck set as showrunner, who steered Dexter for that Showtime series’ final couple of seasons and who’s also set to serve as showrunner on David Fincher’s Netflix drama Mind Hunter. And while Iron Fist won’t debut until 2017, the show is already facing some backlash due to its casting of English actor Jones in the role of Rand. While the comics iteration was also white, many felt that a show steeped so heavily in Asian culture deserved to have a true Asian as its lead.

It’ll be interesting to see how the series contextualizes Rand’s place in Asian mysticism, but given how terrific Jessica Jones was, I’m hoping this new series lives up to the quality of previous Marvel Netflix shows. For now, take a look at the first set photos above (via CBM). Up next on the docket is Luke Cage, which debuts this fall.
