Like Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) says, “It’s good to be back.”  When Iron Man was released in May 2008, it was the anti-Dark Knight.  Irreverent and action-packed, Iron Man stripped away the Nietzsche and gave audiences a fun superhero film in a glossy red and gold finish.  In the two years since, anticipation for the sequel has grown and will likely reach a fever pitch by the time Iron Man 2 hits theaters May 7th.  Adding fuel to the fire is the first full-length trailer for the film, embedded after the jump.  Expanding on the first teaser trailer, this one fleshes out the plot and gives more screen time to Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Whiplash (Mickey Rourke), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell).  While the trailer features Stark’s trademark quips, the best line belongs to Whiplash.  He posits, “If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in him.”  Find out Iron Man’s response after the jump and see 15 new high resolution images taken from the trailer:

Synopsis: Paramount Pictures and Marvel Entertainment present the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster film based on the legendary Marvel Super Hero Iron Man, reuniting director Jon Favreau and Oscar® nominee Robert Downey Jr. In Iron Man 2, the world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and James Rhodey Rhodes (Don Cheadle) at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

I'm a little worried that Iron Man will do what so many movies do once they have gained their claim to fame. Half the time they won't try as hard in the second film to stand out.

However this is just one of those nagging doubts i have in the back of my head prior to the release of most movies i look forward to. Trailer looks phenomenal. looking forward to sam rockwell getting his ass kicked

One word: Mega. No, two word: Frakkin Mega!

    HOLY F**KING SHIT!!!!

Ok, I'm calling it… IronMan-2 will beat Avatar at the box office! Place yo bets!!!

  • peter

no 3d prices, no 700 mil.

I liked the first IRONMAN but meh I'm I the only one that didn't think it was amazing? I only saw it the one time in theatres. So I'm not terribly excited to see 2. It looks okay. I wouldn't say it blew my mind. It does get points for Sam ROckwell though.
Will I see it? yes. Do I think it will be entertaining? YEs.
    I don't know I'm just not excited.

  • junierizzle

I doubt it. But I think it will set a new weekend record for sure.

  • Corin Prendiville

Well, I'm slightly excited, but not as much as most people. I'm much more excited to see Kick-Ass. I'm really disappointed with the actor change to Don Cheadle.

  • Kalisto

This movie will be incredible. But it won't come close to Avatar. Avatars numbers are friggin unreal.

  • junierizzle

Yes. I can honestly say I am more excited to see KICK-ASS too. I like Cheadle but not in this.

  • Corin Prendiville

Same, Cheadle is a wonderful actor but not only can I not imagine him in this role I also don't like when franchises switch actors in the middle of a trilogy, and all over the fact that Marvel is cheap. Really lame too since they probably paid Cheadle a butt load of money to take over the role.

Was rather disappointed by this trailer, apart from the suit-case reveal there isn't much to b excited by that i didn't see in the previous trailer. It definitely feels as if they're holding back footage (no idea what johansson will sound like or what Whiplash's final form will look like) so if i'm right in thinking they are then that can only be a good thing. I hope the finale is better than the first film's limp attempt

I am also annoyed that they replaced Terence Howard. I thought he was good in the first movie. Oh well. I like Don Cheadle, but I don't like the change.

not to excited about this, there version of Tony starks seems to happy go lucky thought they would get more into the meat of the character for this outing, the tony i know from the comics is a tortured soul , alcoholic, paraplegic, this one seems like all he needs is some bling and a rap video, also dont apreciate the actor change from terrence howard to Don cheadle ….

Personally, I loved the new trailer.

I was worried that Don Cheadle will not work for me as Rhodey, but he looks quite convincing in this trailer.

RDJ as Tony is fantastic. And yes, he is snarky, narcissistic and flippant, but that doesn’t mean he will be like this in the entire movie. On the contrary, I suspect that he will have to go through a lot of internal struggle.

The trailer already hinted at this – his scene with Whiplash in the jail, the wistful look on his face in the 1st trailer as ‘infection’ mark appear across his arc reactor, the first direct accusal that Tony is not a team player. And, in the comics, he’s not – and that’s the thing that often puts him in conflict with other characters.
Tony’s driven by an obsessive sense of responsibility and guilt. In the comics when his Iron Man tech is stolen, he destroys not only the illegal armors, but also the ones legally owned by SHIELD, knocking out Captain America who was against it and causing a rift between them. I think we’ll see a similar conflict here.
And then there’s the fact that Vanko-Whiplash accuses Tony of coming from a family of thieves – possibly a hint that Tony’s father stole Anthon Vanko’s (Whiplash’s father) invention. Possibly it’s even the (big) arc reactor..? I can’t imagine that sitting with Tony well.
And then there’s the fact that Tony was recently betrayed by someone whom he trusted (Obadiah), and is possibly being set up to be betrayed in this movie (Black Widow, possibly stealing Mark II for SHIELD).
And then there’s the alcohol issue – which IMHO was strongly hinted at in the 1st movie. Prior to being kidnapped Tony is almost never seen without a glass of something stronger. After returning from Afghanistan this problem seems to fade into the background – Tony’s too engrossed in his mission and improving his armor; plus destroying his weapons and the bad guys gives him a sense of purpose. However, with the pressure of the media, the American government, with having his equipment stolen and used against him Tony might slowly succumb to to the habit again. I doubt it will be ever explicitly shown – the general audience might not like that – but a gentle hints like those in the 1st movie are enough for me.

All in all, I trust in RDJ/Favreau.

And oh, Vanko’s new armour (not seen in the trailer, but hinted at) = Crimson Dynamo..?
