New concept art for Iron Man 3 has gone online.  The concept art will be available at this year’s Comic-Con, presumably over at the Marvel booth.  If you’re wondering what time it will be available, just look for the crowd of people crushing each other as they bite and claw their way towards the booth.  As you can see from the image above, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is also in a tight spot, although no one likes to be interrupted in the middle of changing outfits, even Iron Man.

Hit the jump to check out the full image.  The film also stars Ben Kingsley, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Hall, Ashley Hamilton, and Guy PearceIron Man 3 opens May 3, 2013.

For those just tuning in, Iron Man 3 is based on Warren Ellis‘ comic book arc, “Extremis”.  In the film, Guy Pearce’s character, Aldrich Killian, is reportedly developing Extremis nano-technology in order to to build an Extremis army, which may include Coldblood (Dale) and Firepower (Hamilton).  In Ellis’ comic, the Extremis nano-technology bonds with Stark to physically transform into Iron Man anytime he chooses, and the Iron Man armor is stronger than any of the ones that came before.   It’s an interesting premise, and I’m excited to see what writer-director Shane Black will do with it (assuming the movie will mirror the comic in that regard).

Hopefully we’ll know more about the film’s plot after the movie has its presentation at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.  The presentation is on Saturday night so look for our write-up later that evening.

Who cares? Once Dark Knight Rises destroyz the Avengers box office no one will like Marvel any more. Already beating it’s opening weekend with almost three weeks to go!

    • Fist-O-Pain

      You’re a dumbass

    • Afilmguy

No. I am a huge Batman fan. I love both DC and Marvel. No way should people just drop Marvel because of one box-office record that has the bare minimum on a film’s cinematic success. Why not just appreciate the fact that we are in the middle of a golden age of comic book cinema and send a nod over to both Marvel and DC for having their very successful contributions to it.

You’re right. I am a fan of marvel and batman (not the other dc members). Why do all the batman fanboys have to hate on marvel films. They both did a very good job in the portrayal of comic books to the big screen and if you don’t like it go to your nolanoid forum base instead of posting replies here

Fuck da haterz. Marvel is the shit you like when you’re a prepubescent boy child. Dark Knights is the shitz you watch when you a groded up man. It’s deeply philosophical. You Marvel fanboytoys only like this film because of your closet-case attraction to Evans, Ruffalo, and Downey. I likes the entertainment a hetero man likes. But if that’s how you were bornz their ain’t nothing wrong wit it. You just have to recognize real men’s entertainment when you see it and bow down to DKR.

“destroyz” really? If you want to be taken seriously, you will need to write like an adult.

Where’s the like button for your response? Awesome.

The might being going too far with this nanite shit.

  • Rian

Dark Knight will be big, but will in no way diminish the love I and millions of others have for the Marvel heroes. I absolutely can not wait for next year’s IM3 and Thor 2! From what I’ve seen/heard so far, both will be great films.

I dont know why but i think its a little too soon for extremis

  • Django9000

If you’ve read Extremis it becomes immediately clear how much fun Roberty Downey could have with that material.

Downey having fun = Audience getting their money’s worth.

(Just think. It could’ve been Tom Cruise in that suit…)

As usual, however, it’s all about the Villain. Confident Ben Kingsley will present a suitable challenge.

iam just saying i would like to wait a couple years to see him in extremis. it seems more like bleeding edge though

      • Mr Sunday To Sunday

I can understand that, Extremis comes later in his career. He references how he used to be able to carry his suit around in a suitcase and how bulky it’s now become (before the nano upgrade).

I’d really like to see the neo-nazi villain from that story though, he is truly menacing, and he’s not just another enemy in a rip off Iron Man suit.

  • Ash

I have a feeling the villain might be the mandarin

    • Jay-Bird

They have already released that the Madarin will be the villain. He’ll be played by Ben Kingsley.

  • Grayden

I think the Extremis story will also provide Stark with the means of having a more powerful suit for when Avengers 2 rolls around and they invariably “go cosmic”.

  • t

The mandarin would be an excellent villain

Can’t wait for Marvel’s phase two. Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 look like there shaping up to amazing. I love the new directing and casting choices for Iron Man 3. And I love the directing choice for Thor 2. Captain America 2 I’m not really worried about, but a little Idk how to describe it. Like there choice in director was a little weird. I have faith in Marvel Studios though.
