New Image from IRON MAN 3 Gets Festive

     December 27, 2012

Marvel has unveiled a new holiday-themed image from the upcoming Iron Man 3.  It’s a fun idea that keeps the marketing going over the holiday break, but I find it of particular note given that Shane Black is directing the sequel.  Most of the films that Black has written and/or directed (Lethal Weapon, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Long Kiss Goodnight) take place during Christmas, and I’m hoping that Iron Man 3 is no different. The footage we saw at Comic-Con was prefaced by a full clip from the film in which Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark was playing around with some new armor while dancing to Run DMC’s “Christmas in Holils,” so coupled with this image I think it’s safe to say at least some of the film takes place during the holiday season.

Hit the jump to recapture some of that holiday cheer from a few days ago.  Iron Man 3 opens in 3D on May 3, 2013.

Here’s the official synopsis for Iron Man 3:

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solocomic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968. Iron Man 3 is presented by Marvel Studios in association with Paramount Pictures and DMG Entertainment. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing and Jon Favreau, Louis D’Esposito, Stephen Broussard, Victoria Alonso, Alan Fine, Charles Newirth, Stan Lee and Dan Mintz are executive producers. The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

I have zero interest in seeing Iron Man unless they actually delve into Tony Starks dark side. Iron Man to me is one of the best Comic Book movies of all time; but Marvels recent films like Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America have all been the same tired shtick. Even the Avengers wasn’t as good as the first Iron Man. Until I see that the material is being taken seriously, I won’t waste my money on marvels individual films.

      Well, fuck you.

        I second that.

        I third that remark.

Where your right about Iron Man 2, Avengers actually does dig in deep on Tony Stark’s character. I think it’s more of a character ark then Iron Man one. But then again it’s all opinion. I doubt we’ll get into his acoholism in this film but in the trailer alone I can tell this is going to test him as a human being, not as a hero. Also this has a damn good director behind it. All I’m saying is I wouldn’t write this one off just yet.
