Tonight during Super Bowl XLVII, new ads ran for Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness, The Lone Ranger, Oz the Great and Powerful, World War Z, Snitch, 21 & Over, and Fast & Furious 6.  If you missed the big game, aren't planning to watch the game, or just want to watch the ads again, we've got them all in one handy article.  Now that all the ads have been posted, I've added my thoughts.

Hit the jump to check out the TV spots.

FAST & FURIOUS 6 (May 24th)

This was a damn good spot, and I say that as someone who's not a big fan of the Fast & Furious series.  It may have taken six movies, but this could be the one that definitively lays down the identity of the series.  Some may point to Fast Five as already having done that, but Fast Five feels like trying to shove the Fast & Furious vibe inside Ocean's Eleven.  This series needs to play by its own rules, and those rules include the sexual imagery of a car blasting out the tip of an exploding plane.

Here's the synopsis:

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

IRON MAN 3 (May 3rd)

At some point, we're going to have to see the humor in the actual film rather than playing on an "extended look" rather than an "extensive look".  Even though Iron Man 3 is still coming off as deadly serious, there's going to be comedy in the movie.  I assume Marvel isn't showing it to us because they want to assure audiences they're not going to get more of the same.  However, judging by the reaction on Twitter to the Fast & Furious 6 trailer, audiences sometimes love more of the same.

Extended Spot:

Regular Spot:

Here's the synopsis:

Marvel's "Iron Man 3" pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS (May 17th)

I couldn't help but crack up when Kirk asks Cumberbatch's character, "Who are you?" since that's what everyone has been wondering for the past couple of years.  This spot has the best answer: it doesn't matter.  Cumberbatch's performance will probably blow us all away, and the character's name isn't going to change that.

Here's the synopsis:

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

THE LONE RANGER (July 3rd)

I have faith director Gore Verbinski.  I really do.  But when I watch this trailer, I can't get the theme to Wild Wild West out of my head.

Here's the synopsis:

From producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski, the filmmaking team behind the blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise, comes Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films' "The Lone Ranger," a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto (Johnny Depp) recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid (Armie Hammer), a man of the law, into a legend of justice--taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL (March 8th)

I know Steve said in his set visit that there were lots of practical effects and sets, but none of that has ever come across in the trailers or TV spots for this movie.  It's an overload of CGI.  More damning, there's none of Sam Raimi's personality.  It feels almost mercenary, and it's as if someone at Disney pointed to Alice in Wonderland, said, "Do that," and Raimi didn't put up a fight.

Here's the synopsis:

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved wizard character. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard but into a better man as well.

WORLD WAR Z (June 21st)

I would love to do a poll of people who watched this spot and asked them "What does the 'Z' stand for?"  This spot is selling a zombie movie without the zombies.  You can see a lot of CGI bodies crawling over other CGI bodies, but a close-up of a zombie is too much to ask?  When Brad Pitt asks at the end of the trailer, "What is this?" and the guy responds, "I don't know," my reaction is, "Yeah, that sounds about right."

SNITCH (February 22nd)

If Dwayne Johnson was out of milk, rescuing his kid would not be a priority.

Here's the synopsis:

In the fast-paced action thriller Snitch, Dwayne Johnson stars as a father whose teenage son is wrongly accused of a drug distribution crime and is looking at a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years. Desperate and determined to rescue his son at all costs, he makes a deal with the U.S. attorney to work as an undercover informant and infiltrate a drug cartel on a dangerous mission--risking everything, including his family and his own life.

21 & OVER (March 1st)

This film would probably fly under my radar, but since it stars Miles Teller, and he was absolutely amazing in The Spectacular Now, I want to see this movie.

Here's the synopsis:

Straight-A college student Jeff Chang has always done what’s expected of him. But when his two best friends Casey and Miller surprise him with a visit for his 21st birthday, he decides to do the unexpected for a change, even though his critical medical school interview is early the next morning. What was supposed to be one beer becomes one night of chaos, over indulgence and utter debauchery in this outrageous comedy.
