Warner Bros. has confirmed what everyone already knew: Clash of the Titans and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 are going to be released in 3D. They also announced Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Zack Snyder’s Guardians of Ga’Hoole are also going to be released in 3D.
With the worldwide success of Avatar, average moviegoers were exposed to 3D for the first time and they showed a willingness to wear the glasses and also pay a premium for the experience. Therefore, it’s no surprise the studios are going to convert more of their 2D movies into 3D as it could means tens of millions of dollars in extra revenue. The only problem with everyone going 3D is the amount of movie screens that are currently available. As it stands, most movie theaters only have one or two screens that can handle 3D. Until theaters can run more 3D movies at the same time, it’ll be a battle every week for which movie plays in the theater.
I think we’re almost at the point that every big release is going to be in 3D and it’ll be more of a news story when the film is NOT released in the format. I hope you like wearing the glasses. Hit the jump for the press release WB sent over:

Builds Studio’s Global Strategy To Increase 3D Slate This Year and Going Forward Upcoming 3D Titles Include “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1″
(February 2, 2010 – Burbank, California) Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that the upcoming feature film “Clash of the Titans” will be released in 3D worldwide on April 2, 2010. The film will simultaneously be released in 2D.
In making the announcement, Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures, said, “We are experienced and have been successful in the conversion of 2D to 3D going back to such hits as ‘The Polar Express,’ select scenes in ‘Superman Returns’ and the last two Harry Potter films.”
Fellman continued, “We are confident in the constantly evolving 3D technology, and the results for ‘Clash of the Titans’ will be presented onscreen with the highest-quality images available today. Based on our track record, we know that audiences are embracing the RealD and IMAX experiences, and we see many opportunities on our film slate to provide moviegoers with these great options at the multiplex.”

I hope the studios don't shoot themselves in the foot, here. If the post-process 3D is still as inferior to in-camera and rendered 3D as it was for Superman Returns and the earlier Harry Potter movie, they could damage the reputation of live action 3D.
These movies were NOT directed with any consideration for 3D or where the convergence plane should sit from shot to shot.
Prove me wrong and a TON of money could be saved on 3D cameras, etc. Just do it all in post.
I love how in the Avatar hype people have already forgotten that Coraline and Up were both very successful in 3D and audiences have been attending 3D films since 2005's Chicken Little.
Avatar was a fine movie, but for me its 3D was just like it's story: neither groundbreaking or entirely exciting. Yeah the visual effects were stunning but those didn't benefit that much from the 3D treatment. I thought Selick had a much more artistic and effective approach with the 3D on Coraline.
