J.J. Abrams Talks STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS, Where the Franchise Should Go Next, STAR WARS, Does He Like the Prequels, More

by     Posted 336 days ago

With Star Trek Into Darkness opening soon around the world, our partners at Omelete recently sat down with director J.J. Abrams.  During the interview, they talked about what Star Trek mean to him, where he thinks Star Trek should go next and what he’s accomplished, and more.  In addition, with Abrams preparing to direct the next Star Wars movie, he talked about who shot first, his feelings on the Star Wars prequels, and what’s his favorite Star Wars movie.  Hit the jump to watch.

Star Trek Into Darkness  stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Peter Weller, and Alice Eve.  The film is now playing in IMAX 3D and in 2D and 3D on May 17th.

WARNING: During the Star Trek portion of the interview a spoiler is discussed.  I suggest not watching that portion until you have seen the film.

J.J. Abrams:

  • What does Star Trek mean to him
  • 1:20 – Where does he think Star Trek should go next and what does he think he’s accomplished
  • 3:00 – How one of the themes of the film is questioning authority
  • 4:20 – Who shot first?
  • 4:30 – Does he like the Star Wars prequels?
  • 4:45 – Favorite Star Wars movie

Dammit! Word to the wise, they drop what could be a fairly significant spoiler in this interview. I wish I hadn’t watched it …

Collider, your interviewer revealed a plot twist.
    Not Cool, man.

Haha, I wonder how long he’s going to be able to avoid answering the prequels-question.

  • Eric Prajogo

I don’t want to watch it as there are spoilers but what did JJ say about the prequels?

    • MIXTER

I skipped the Trek part to avoid spoilers. But re Star Wars, he said basically, A New Hope is his favorite SW film.

And he dodged the Prequels question by saying he is a fan of the Originals (Which basically means he thinks they are shit, but he’d never say that due to his role in Directing them, and being employed by Disney)

re, the who shot first? He said for him, there was only One shot fired. (So he means Han.)

Things are looking promising based on these comments alone. What was Not said, says a lot! (Also the interview with him and Simon Pegg, he winced and laughed, when Pegg asked if Jar Jar would be in this.) Revealing his true hatred of Jar Jar. So expect not to see him, unless in the form of a Gungan milkshake.

Regardless I don’t appciate that he said he is friends with Lucas. I think he needs to make it clear that he detests everything that Lucas stands for and wants to see his African whore shot and gang raped in front of him. So far everything has been great news for Star Wars and, kids, be sure to take a cue from that awesome 12-year-old and kill your Jar jar and Clone Wars loving little sister. No museum in San Franciso! Turn into a concentration camp and make it prequel Auschwitz!

What the fuck is wrong with you, asshole? I bet your parents must be proud, you fucking weirdo. The very shame of the Star Wars fanbase right there.

      • David Bastardo

Sorry, I love the prequels. Hating them because ”Oh, jar jar is soooo anoying” is a stupid argument. He probably just wanted to avoid a futile discussion that is all over the Internet involving hordes of idiotic geeks saying they hate it with all their soul because politics are boring.

That right there invalidates you as a Star Wars fan and as a human being. I hope you have kids and each one of them are molested and dismembered. Star Wars fans, we all must do our part in ending the prequel infestation. If you have kids who like the Clone Wars, kill them and force your wife into having new and pure ones who appreciate Star Wars the way it’s supposed to be. Also train them to hate the Ewoks and if they don’t lock them in the closet with a bucket for at least three days to commemerate the hallowed trilogy. If someone mistakes trilogy for trinity, kill them. J.J. is counting on you and I’m sure he’d give you a huge thumbs up. Oh, we also need to sign a petition where we line up all the Clone Wars wearing costumed up kids and their doting parents and shoot them all iin the head. Then have the crowd chant “HAN SHOT FIRST!” HAN SHOT FIRST!”
It was George Lucas’s birthday and he’s still alive. We need to rectify that when he gets married to his African whore, then make sure that he has no funeral and we use his body as a toilet. Then we can go after his sycophantic foster kids, especially that fat cow who thinks she can write and that MMA fighter who needs to be paralyzed from the neck down so we can piss and shit in her open mouth.
