New Trailer and Images for JACK REACHER Starring Tom Cruise

     July 3, 2012

The Russian trailer for Jack Reacher went online last week, but now we have it in English.  For those unfamiliar with the film, it’s based on the novel One Shot by Lee Child, and stars Tom Cruise as the titular ex-military investigator who is tasked with tracking down a serial sniper. Watching this trailer, it’s difficult to see Cruise as the “tough guy.”  Yeah, he can kick-ass, but he doesn’t come off as imposing.  Because of his physique, he can threaten from an intellectual standpoint.  He plays guys who know where to hit you as opposed to characters who will just beat the living snot of you.  The trailer makes Reacher look like any other Tom Cruise hero except he doesn’t smile.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer and two hi-res images.  The film also stars tars Rosamund Pike, Robert Duvall, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo, and Werner HerzogJack Reacher opens December 21st.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jack Reacher:

When a gunman takes five lives with six shots, all evidence points to the suspect in custody. On interrogation, the suspect offers up a single note: “Get Jack Reacher!” So begins an extraordinary chase for the truth, pitting Jack Reacher against an unexpected enemy, with a skill for violence and a secret to keep.

Sorry, fans of the novels. This looks damn cool to me.

    • R. Melendez

Not every fan of the books is a whiny, impossible to please snob. this looks amazing and they picked the best actor to make a run.

  • Lance

I kind of wonder if the Punisher movies shouldn’t have been a bit closer to this approach, instead of the ones they went with. Punisher maybe shouldn’t be so dark and angstsy like Batman, but just pure, ruthless badass.

  • Djs

Yes indeed. As for collider’s comment, this is different from other cruise heroic movies.

  • Bo

Well, Cruise is Cruise and you either like him or not. I’ve not really cared for him in the long run. Very wierd Cat and hard to separate that from his work. However, I’ve read all of the Reacher books and just from this bit of a trailer I see that they’ve totally missed the tone, the philosophical take of the character, and his total outsider position in the world. Reacher would never, never talk like Cruise does to the multiple guys he’s about to beat the hell out of. He just does it. Reacher’s internal dialogue in the books have totally flown over the filmmaker’s and Cruise’s head. No surprise. It’ll be what it is and it they just haven’t captured the ‘essence’ of Reacher. Let alone that he’s 6′ 5″ and 250 llbs. which makes him an incredible imposing figure just to see. I’m sure the fan boys who dig Cruise won’t mind, but for us that have really enjoyed Reacher and his stance in the world this isn’t going to be pretty!!

Is it just me or do yahoo trailers run like crap?

The HATERS said the same thing back in 1993-1994 when Tom Cruise, instead of the heavily favored Rutger Hauer, was cast as Lastat. I know there are doubts, but hopefully Tom Cruise & director Christopher McQuarrie will churn out a classic to a potential franchise, long the 007 series! *hoping for a solid movie*

    • R. Melendez

thank you. Isn’t it amazing how many of Child’s fans are hurting the cause here?

  • Joe

Yawn. Seen this Cruise a thousand times. It’s boring, boring, boring…and frankly unbelievable.

The trailer also sounds like Mission Impossible Lite with the guitar riff.

Cruise should just play villains like he did in Collateral. His ‘heroes’ are too one-note for me.

This Movie is so hard for me, because I love Lee Child, fully believe Jack Reacher is the most iconic and amazing literary character of my time, and with that have waited years for this (and in that time wished I could meet other Child sycophants)…..only to find out that his fan’s are whiny snobs (just look below) and think themselves too intelligent to realize how idiotic they really are. I would never single out somebody in normal circumstance, but Bo, boy or girl, you are a waste of air. You have not read the books, because I do not believe you can read.
‘they have totally missed on Reacher’ …why do humans watch movies if all we need is 1 minute to know the movie and it’s characters in their entirety? All that does is prove that no matter what, you (like other cruise haters on here) weren’t going to like the trailer even if it should Eliza Dushku eating strawberries of Mila Kunis’ naked body…and what kills the most, and why I’m so angry AND disappointed, is that all this negativity goes agains what every true Child and Reacher fan want……more Reacher movies after this one, the new Bond, etc.
Wake up. And before you say anything, I’ve read the books several times, been with him since the beginning, don’t try, you will get schooled. As for me, great teaser, looks amazing, and have to admit that though i loved the book, they packed more action in approx. a minute than was in the entire book, almost. And as for Cruise, anyone doubted him as Reacher, all they have to do is checkout the Jailbreak scene in Ghost Protocol. If that’s not Reacher, I don’t know what is.

How about the great job he did in Collateral? Pretty menacing there. I just think they shouldn’t have him so fresh faced in this is all. He looks like a poster boy for longshoremen.

  • Lord Admiral-General Sir Percy Arthur George David De Bouef-Crecy, O.B.E., V.C.

Looks good anyways. Childs word is enough for me.
Even if Cruise isn’t a perfect Reacher, (which I think he is), it will still be a damn good film.
