I would really like to learn one day where Internet fan-casting and real Hollywood deal-making meet? Do agents and movie producers check out movie websites or do they already have a list in their head? All I know is that the Internet championed Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger for Platinum Dunes' "A Nightmare on Elm Street" reboot and according to Bloody Disgusting and Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog, Haley now has the iconic role. This is a big step forward for Dunes because they've actually cast a real actor in their role and yet it seems like they're asking for someone almost as silent and withdrawn as killers like Jason or Leatherface (if LatinoReview's script report is to be believed). However, there's also the factor of Freddy's pre-shoved-into-a-furnace days that will require actual acting ability. But Haley's a smart choice because like his performance as Rorschach, when you lose a standard acting tool like your face (or in Freddy's case, your voice), you have to rely more on a physical performance and I'm excited to see what Haley will do with the part.
"A Nightmare on Elm Street" is scheduled to hit theatres in April 2010.
