Opening this weekend is Alice Through the Looking Glass, the long-awaited follow-up to Tim Burton’s 2010 box office behemoth Alice in Wonderland. Directed by The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted helmer James Bobin, the sequel picks up a few years after the events of the first film, as Alice has been sailing the high seas and following in her father’s footsteps. However, when she returns to London, a magical looking glass returns her to Underland where she must go back in time to save the Hatter’s (Johnny Depp) life, battling new villain Time himself, played by Sacha Baron Cohen. Penned by Alice in Wonderland scribe Linda Woolverton, the sequel also stars Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Rhys Ifans, and features the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen, and Timothy Spall.

At the press day in London I landed an exclusive video interview with producer director James Bobin. He talked about what it was like making his first big budget Hollywood movie, the way he wanted to portray time travel in the film, using 3D to help tell the story, the Men in Black/21 Jump Street sequel MIB 23, and more. Check out what he had to say in the video above and if you missed my interviews with Tim Burton or Anne Hathaway click the links.

Here’s the official synopsis for Alice Through the Looking Glass:

Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past few years following in her father’s footsteps and sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland and her friends the White Rabbit (Sheen), Absolem (Rickman), the Cheshire Cat (Fry) and the Mad Hatter (Depp), who is not himself. The Hatter has lost his Muchness, so Mirana (Hathaway) sends Alice on a quest to borrow the Chronosphere, a metallic globe inside the chamber of the Grand Clock which powers all time. Returning to the past, she comes across friends – and enemies – at different points in their lives, and embarks on a perilous race to save the Hatter before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D, Real D 3D and IMAX 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
