Will JAMES BOND 23 Be Entitled SKYFALL?

     October 5, 2011

We may no longer have to refer to the 23rd James Bond film as “James Bond 23“.  WhatCulture! is reporting that the brand protection company that works for Sony has nabbed a dozen URLs that all feature the word “Skyfall” and some of the URLs include “James Bond”.  While Skyfall may sound slightly more like a title for a James Bond videogame, some of the URLs include the words “film” and “movie”.  Again, take this with a grain of salt since we’ve also heard that the title may be Carte Blanche.  Either of these titles would be fine and certainly miles better than “Quantum of Solace“.  I slightly prefer Carte Blance since, as I said, Skyfall sound more appropriate to a video game (it also sounds like a title that would be more appropriate for an alien invasion flick).  But the title could be something we haven’t heard yet and in any case we’ll find out in due course.  At least we can rest assured that they can’t come up with a worse title than Quantum of Solace…right?

James Bond 23 is due out November 9, 2012.  Directed by Sam Mendes, the film stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Javier Bardem.

As you said, I can’t read “Skyfall” without thinking of “Skyrim.” I think Carte Blanche would be a better title, but I honestly don’t care what it’s called as long as the movie lives up to Casino Royale (which Quantum of Solace certainly did not).

And I still don’t get it why they called the second Bond by this weird name. I’ve read somewhere that it was a reference in a line of dialog between J.B and the Governor in “For Your Eyes Only”

Why not calling the 3rd ” James Bond origins” ? It is in the mood now. ^^

    How about “On Golden Bond”?

    • Tarek

Or James Bond and the Golden Compas

  • Ryan

I really don’t get what’s wrong with “Quantum of Solace”…

I thought the title worked fine. It sounds like a cool Bond movie name to me anyway.

I also don’t get what everyone’s problem is with Quantum. I loved it.

Word. Sure it didn’t live up to Casino Royale but it was damn sure better than Die Another Day. The name was a little “fluffy” but it definitely played into the slight art-house cinematography that they attempted at incorporating.

QOS was perfect for what it was, it wrapped up the story threads left over from CR. Its art direction was great, Bond was cold blooded which is natural since he got duped by the love of his life. WoW just because he was following the loose threads and no super villain this time, oh for heavens sake. The opera scene was the best staged Bond action in years. All the haters can bugger off!!

I’d like to see Kurt Angle and Gary Daniels as villains in this film. There would be amazing fight scenes between each of them with Daniel Craig.

  • Ashlee Palmer

I hope they film in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Las Vegas and include several American actors.

I think its cornier than Quantum of Solace. I liked both the name and the movie. I’m just pumped for another Bond Movie. Your such a(n overly) Critical Carl.

    • Todd

      make that ‘You’re’

  • Frank

Carte Blanche is the title of the latest James Bond book, so I doubt they’d of already created a screenplay for it…wait – that actually makes perfect sense…

Quantum Of Solace was a Bond story, and if you have a brain or dictionary ypu’d know the title males perfect sence.

It’s OK. There aren’t many suitable Fleming-related titles left and the ones that are still available are ones like ‘Risico’, which are very context specific. A lot of fans are calling for Chapter titles to be used, but even there, the options are fairly limited. ‘Skyfall’ is a bit videogamey, should it prove real and not a piece of misdirection, but if there’s justification for it, then no problem.

All of this is perfectly timed for me in any case, since I just yesterday wrote an article about everything I’d like to see in Bond 23 and what there still is to be taken from Fleming…

What’s with all the Quantum of Solace bashing? I’m sure someone already said that it’s the title of an original Ian Fleming James Bond story, and makes perfect sense in the story. The short story is excellent but completely unrelated to the movie that used it’s name.

Skyfall is not a bad title for a Bond movie. If that one does not work; I suggest my very clever “Datekill” or “Mirrors Can’t Lie”……I have many more but I have to charge a fee!!!!

I liked Quantum of Solace. Even the name. I get why people don’t like things about it, but I found the efficiency and the subtlety really fun.

I will say that it seems it was shot with a TV viewing experience in mind. You need to see the whole frame to appreciate the action. I think that was a mistake because the big screen made the action scenes seem incoherent. Watching at home I found them to be beautifully framed and cut.

Even with all that said, I like the time that Casino Royale took to let the characters get under the skin of the audience and I hope the next film does the same.

As far as the name goes I vote for Carte Blanche over Skyfall but really I have no idea what the movie is about as far as theme and conflict go so Skyfall might be a much better name for it.
