The ever-busy James Franco has put together an impressive ensemble for his next adaptation, and this time he’s tackling another John Steinbeck novel.  It was announced today that Selena Gomez, Vincent D’Onofrio, Robert Duvall, Ed Harris, Bryan Cranston, and Danny McBride will star in Franco’s adaptation of In Dubious Battle.  The story revolves around a man who tries to organize a strike by fruit pickers in Southern California.  Screenwriter Matt Rager, with whom Franco worked on As I Lay Dying, penned the script and filming is set to begin in March.  Franco will be directing the film, and this marks his second time working with Steinbeck material, as he recently starred in a Broadway revival of Of Mice and Men.

Additionally, Open Road Films announced today that Jamie Foxx and Michelle Monaghan will lead the action thriller Sleepless Night.  Written by Andrea Berloff, who penned the script for the upcoming Straight Outta Compton, the film stars Foxx as Vincent Downs, a seemingly corrupt Las Vegas cop who, when gangsters kidnap his son as ransom for stolen cocaine, must race to save his son’s life without being discovered by Internal Affairs.  Complicating matters is the fact that he’s already lost the stolen goods.

True Detective actress Monaghan will play an Internal Affairs agent investigating Foxx’s character, and Baran Bo Odar will direct.
