INSIDIOUS Sequel in the Works; James Wan Returns to Direct for 2013 Release

     February 2, 2012

One of the most successful films profit-wise from last year was James Wan’s Insidious. The horror pic was made for a mere $1.5 million and ended up grossing over $95 million. That’s quite a hefty profit. Given the film’s success, it was pretty much guaranteed to get a sequel. Now it’s official, as Variety reports that a follow-up is currently in the works for a 2013 release. The creative team behind the first film, director James Wan and screenwriter Leigh Whannell, are coming back for the second go-around, and James Blum is coming back to produce. Whannell had this to say regarding the sequel:

“It is with great excitement that we announce our commitment to a second installment of this story. Both of us feel that we can mine more terror from the world we created and know that if we assemble every member of the original team, we will have an amazing continuation of the story for fans of the first film.”

Production is set to get underway later this year, but plot details are (predictably) being kept under wraps. Head to the comments to sound off on where you think the sequel will go. Wan will next direct Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga in the supernatural thriller The Conjuring.

    Cool, really like Insidious

First of all, the Dad should start the sequel in a Mental Institution for the Criminally Insane. The Government dont believe in Supernatural and Psych evaluations have happened, court cases, the whole thing.

Years later, the kid is older. Takes drugs, LSD etc, loves tripping. Loves astral projection. Experiments with it. Talks about how cool it is with friends. Knows how to control a lot of it. Writes blogs on Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection web sites, all that stuff.

Then he successfully gets to a real high level in the Astral plains, leaves something open kind of. Things start to happen in reality. A strange power. A haunting more powerful terrifying Demonic soul. The soul has actually been at a war of sorts in the astral plains, has taken over etc. Uses the kid to connect with the real world.

Now the kid or teenager HATES to astral project, scared to death. But he cant stop what happening and whats about to happen, gets attacked while sleeping for the demonic powerhouse. Tries not to sleep, kind of like Freddy Krueger movies.

Now the Father has that old hag soul in him. Now that soul has history and knows a weakness of sorts for the huge powerful demonic soul waging war on the astral plains and has a real chance to terrorize the real world.

The Father has built up a strange connection, like a Split personality type with the old bitch soul. The Mom goes to see him blah blah blah.
They organize for him to astral project and meet up with the Son in the plains. And the freakin COOL shit happens.

Anyway folks just thinking out loud. Lots of potential for this sequel. Ive never commented on crap before hardly. So if you read all of my crap im sorry

Don’t take it to heart dashmasha. You need only to take a look at his username to realize he’s probably a troll & if he’s not a troll, he’s certainly not worth taking seriously.

And @Womanshouldbeinkitchen: Your cruelty makes you look like a pathetic coward.

  • dashmasha

They really should go to town with the whole Astral Projection thing. With good research and writing, it could be awesome. Astral projection in movies is rare, and it would make the movie much more origional than most other movies out there

  • MR

Insidious started out alright, but it got really boring at the end. I seemed to go on too long. The demon thing chasing his was SO was that stupid old lady the dad was afraid of. I never figured out why this movie did so well.
