Just how does Oscar winner Jamie Foxx plan on following up a large-scale spaghetti Western from Quentin Tarantino? Why with a Roland Emmerich action movie, of course. Variety reports that Foxx is eyeing the role of the President of the United States in the Independence Day director’s actioner White House Down. Channing Tatum is set to star as a secret service agent who must protect the president when a group of parahijackers take over the White House. The project, described as “Die Hard in the White House,” comes with a script by Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man screenwriter James Vanderbilt. Hit the jump for more.
Sony is in a bit of a pickle with White House Down, as Millenium Films is prepping a similarly-plotted film called White House Taken (clever title!). Gerard Butler stars in the Millenium project with Antoine Fuqua set to direct. Though Taken is further along than Down, the latter project has the master of blowing shit up as its director and the suddenly very popular Tatum as its star, so I’m saying the advantage goes to Down. Though Variety notes that no official negotiations have begun with Foxx, he’s apparently interested in taking on the POTUS role and Emmerich is keen on landing the Academy Award winner. Tatum has had an impressive year with turns in Haywire and 21 Jump Street, and I’d be more than interested to see him team up with Foxx for an all-out actioner from Emmerich.
