Citing a “passion for storytelling,” Janet Jackson has signed a one picture development/production deal with Lionsgate. While details regarding the type of project Jackson may pursue are sparse at this stage, the performer-actress tells THR that she is attracted to “diverse material” which includes a significant appreciation for film noir. With this in mind, perhaps a reboot of 1941’s The Maltese Falcon is in order? If you’re reading this, Janet/Lionsgate, I’m just saying, keep it in mind.
Jackson’s relationship with the independent studio includes previous roles in Tyler Perry/Lionsgate films such as Why Did I Get Married?, Why Did I Get Married Too?, and For Colored Girls. Jackson received an Oscar nod for Best Original Song (entitled “Again”) from the 1993 film Poetic Justice.
