Citing a “passion for storytelling,” Janet Jackson has signed a one picture development/production deal with Lionsgate. While details regarding the type of project Jackson may pursue are sparse at this stage, the performer-actress tells THR that she is attracted to “diverse material” which includes a significant appreciation for film noir. With this in mind, perhaps a reboot of 1941′s The Maltese Falcon is in order? If you’re reading this, Janet/Lionsgate, I’m just saying, keep it in mind.
Jackson’s relationship with the independent studio includes previous roles in Tyler Perry/Lionsgate films such as Why Did I Get Married?, Why Did I Get Married Too?, and For Colored Girls. Jackson received an Oscar nod for Best Original Song (entitled “Again”) from the 1993 film Poetic Justice.
If someone remade The Maltese Falcon I’d have to shoot them in the head execution style.
