In a matter of weeks, production will formally be underway on Suicide Squad, Warner Bros.’ first non-Superman movie of their new interconnected DC Universe. Fury and End of Watch helmer David Ayer is directing, and while anything superhero-related these days is noteworthy, the character that folks are probably most curious to see in Suicide Squad is The Joker, who will be played by Oscar-winner Jared Leto.

Of course the rest of the cast is solid—Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and the newly added Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc—but Leto’s role is of special interest given Heath Ledger’s iconic (and Oscar-winning) performance in The Dark Knight.

Leto has been active on social media, teasing his look for The Joker with a new bleached haircut and even his voice for the character, and now it appears that he’s gearing up to have his first full screen test in costume. Earlier today, Leto took to Instagram to tease his “transformation” into The Joker with what looks to be a “before” picture. I wouldn’t expect him to reveal his look for the character just yet, but Warner Bros. has been very smart in its character reveals for DC movies thus far, so it’s possible we could have our first official look at Leto’s Joker in the next month or so. No doubt WB wants to get out in front of any non-professional, paparazzi-taken snapshots of Leto in costume.
