Joining the ranks of Andy Samberg, Mike Myers, Justin Timberlake, Seann William Scott and most recently Aziz Ansari, MTV has just announced that Saturday Night Live star Jason Sudeikis will host the 2011 MTV Movie Awards live on Sunday, June 5th at 9/8c. This will be the 20th movie awards for the cable network and will mark Sudeikis’ first time hosting the ceremony, or for that matter, any televised awards events. Nominees for the movie awards haven’t yet been announced, but since voting for the winners is supposed to open on May 3rd, you can expect to hear about all the nominees in outlandish categories like Best Scared As Shit Performance and Best Line from a Movie very soon.
Sudeikis, who has been on SNL for six years now, has some genuine comedic talent which was most recently put on display in Going the Distance, so I’m interested to see what he does with the over-the-top awards show. The comedian commented on his new gig, “I’m sincerely flattered that the folks from the Mostly Teenage Viewers network have invited me to host this year and I look forward to keeping the streak of flawless and critically-lauded movie award show hosting in 2011 alive.” I can’t wait to see what kind of film parodies they deliver this year, but I’m not sure if they can top J.J. Abrams playing keyboard in that Cool Guys Don’t Look at Explosions music video from a couple years back.

One of the following recognisable actors with comedic experience should have been the host instead:
Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Rowan Atkinson, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Rob Schneider, Jeremy Piven, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, William Shatner, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Tim Allen, Chevy Chase, John Goodman, Billy Connolly, Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, George Lopez, John Cleese, Steve Coogan.
you gave a horrible list.
Love Sudekis. Think he’s hilarious. However, he was in Hall Pass last as one of the two stars.
