At the recent New York press day for Skyfall, I was able to speak with Javier Bardem.  We talked about what it was like to play the villain, why he wanted the role (he’s been very selective since No Country For Old Men), how this is a very grounded and realistic Bond, and more.  In addition, with Bardem currently filming Ridley Scott‘s The Counselor, we talked about why he signed on to that project.

Let me be very clear: I absolutely loved Skyfall.  Director Sam Mendes has crafted one of the best James Bond movies ever made and it’s also one of my favorite films of the year.  While the Bond franchise is now 50 years old, Mendes has shown the best might be yet to come.  I really can’t recommend this film enough.  For all our Skyfall coverage including clips, posters, my set visit and more, click hereSkyfall stars Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Helen McCrory, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Berenice Marlohe, and Naomie Harris.  Hit the jump to watch the interview.

Also, if you missed my interview with Daniel Craig, click here.  He talked about Skyfall, hosting SNL, Roger Deakins, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sequel and more.

Javier Bardem:

  • Since No Country For Old Men he’s been very selective about picking roles.  What was it about Bond that made him want to sign on.
  • Did he want his character to have any sort of specific thing like the way the older Bond villains had certain traits
  • Talks about how Skyfall is the old versus the new and it’s very grounded
  • What has it been like working on Ridley Scott’s The Counselor and what made him want to do it

Some of the other folks that work on this site will post transcripts or at least memorable quotes from the interviews. Could I request that you add those to your articles Steve? It would help those of us who are checking this site at work or are otherwise unable to use audio. :)

I wish that I could talk like him … I would just record me saying random crap, and play it back because, no matter what I’d say, it would sound bad-ass.

Since he was not speaking any english before No Country, he learned pretty well.
    Nicely done

Not a fan of when nerds have to try to be cool by throwing out random f-bombs. Bardem is better than that, dorky.

I show the movie Skyfall around three month ago. Very
wonderful work had done by Javier Bardem (Raoul Silva) as a villain. For his awesome performance, he nominated for MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.
