Today is March 10th, 2016 and it’s another Collider Jedi Council hosted by Darth “Kristian” Harloff, The Smith Lord, Mark 2-D-2, Mark Ellis and Obi-John-Kenobi, John Campea, with special guest Mitch Dostine, AKA Dash Star!
Chewbacca Origin Story in Young Han Solo Movie
Right off the bat, the Council get’s right to the comments Disney head honcho, Bob Iger, made on a stockholders call last week. In talking about the Young Han Solo movie, Iger mentioned Chewbacca would definitely be in the movie, and getting an origin story on top of it. The Council weigh in what the story could be about along with their speculation and ideas on what they would like to see.
10 Star Wars Movies in Development at Lucasfilm
In that same call, Iger also mentioned that Lucasfilm has 10 Star Wars movies in development. This is not a surprise as at one point, Iger said they (Disney) would be making Star Wars movies forever – (in the foreseeable future). What those stories will be about remains to be seen.
Pablo Hildago Confirms Snoke is Not a Sith
Next up, keeper of the Holocrons and head of Lucasfilm Story Group, Pablo Hidalgo, took to Twitter to discuss none other than Supreme Leader Snoke! So many people have tried to peg just who Snoke really is. Is he a dead Sith Lord come back to life? Is he Emperor Palpatine reincarnated? Whoever he is – Pablo Hidalgo dropped the mic revealing Snoke is not even a Sith! And with that reveal, there goes most, if not all, the theories bouncing around on the internet.
Practical FX/Creature Shop in Dubrovnik
As Episode VIII continues filming overseas, a report was released revealing that a Practical Effects Creature Shop has popped up on the set; which makes a lot of sense seeing as the new Trilogy has been touted as a return to the sensibilities found in the Original Trilogy; which was put to great use in The Force Awakens. The Council love the idea of seeing more practical effects in the next Episode and can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
JJ Abrams Talks Leia Missing the Hug with Chewie in The Force Awakens
Something hat has bothered many fans has been the handling of Han’s death in TFA and perhaps one thing that could have saved these feelings would have been Leia hugging Chewie instead of Rey after they got back from Starkiller Base. JJ Abrams realized the error in his ways and admitted that he could have probably done it differently.
Details Released on the Deleted Scenes in The Force Awakens Blu-Ray
Next, seeing as we’re only a few weeks away from getting our grubby little hands on the new Blu-Ray for The Force Awakens, details have been revealed about some of the deleted scenes you’ll be able to see on the release. The Council breaks down what they would like to see and what it might fill in as far as the overall story from TFA.
Mark Hamill Tidbits on Episode VIII and His Relationship with Daisy Ridley
Mark Hamill made the news when he started talking some minor tidbits of Episode VIII and as you can imagine, he didn’t really say much. What is funny – how the media took to some of his comments about Daisy Ridley as truth AND how his comments must mean Rey is Luke’s daughter. Nope. He was referring to actual, real life and not his Luke Skywalker character. The Council gets into this and the media and how much hype surrounds this mystery.
The Force Awakens Documentary Getting SXSW Appearance
One of the more interesting special features coming from TFA Blu-Ray is the full-length documentary on the making of The Force Awakens. The Council looks forward to witnessing the magic from behind the scenes and it makes a lot of sense that it is getting a prime spot in the SXSW festival.
R2D2’s Creator Tony Dyson Becomes One with the Force
And in some sad news, the Council looks at the life and legacy of Tony Dyson, the man behind R2D2. They look at what he did before and since his work on Star Wars and how his creation has become one of the most iconic creations of all time.
WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH CANON?
The topics this week are few but seeing as it’s Star Wars, and the machine is being run by Disney, we will ALWAYS have Star Wars. This week we have a few stories to discuss, namely the new Children’s Books written by Cavan Scott. While taking over the top charts in the UK, the new stories, geared for the kids, explore and introduce some new characters in the bigger Star Wars Universe.
On the comic side of things, finally, Marvel has announced a new series of comics that will feature Han Solo and his adventures. The Council is very happy and excited to see the run but they are wondering what the timeline will be – is it before New Hope? Is it set between New Hope and Empire Strikes Back? One thing everyone agrees with, the series is to coincide with the Young Han Solo movie that is currently awaiting its lead announcement.
And lastly, the remake for one of the most popular video games in the Star Wars Universe, maybe of all time, is Knights of the Old Republic. Now, some new footage of the remake has hit online. The Council looks at the screen shots and discusses the footage. And since the game isn’t actually a property of LucasArts, this game will just be for the fans and is in no way, considered canon.
