Though production is already underway, two more intriguing castmembers have been added to director Jon M. Chu’s (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) live-action Jem and the Holograms movie.  The lead cast is already set with Aubrey Peeples (Nashville) as Jem, Stefanie Scott (Flipped) as Kimber, Hayley Kiyoko (The Fosters) as Aja, and Aurora Perrineau (Pretty Little Liars) as Shana, but now 1980s staple Molly Ringwald and actress Juliette Lewis have been set as part of the ensemble.  The original series revolved around the adventures of the titular rock band and its mysterious frontwoman Jem, but this updated iteration envisions Jem as an orphaned teenager who becomes an internet sensation and subsequently embarks on a music-driven scavenger hunt with her band.

News of Ringwald and Lewis joining Jem and the Holograms was reported by THR and Deadline, respectively, but neither outlet reveals which characters the duo will play.  Deadline goes one further and adds that Lewis’ role is “mysterious” in nature, but maybe some readers more familiar with the material than I can figure out who these actresses might be playing.

Lewis most recently appeared in last year’s ensemble dramedy August: Osage County and has a role on ABC’s upcoming series Secrets & Lies, while Pretty in Pink and The Breakfast Club alum Ringwald most recently starred in the ABC Family series The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Production on Jem and the Holograms is underway now, but you can check out the previously released first-look image of the cast below.
