Jennifer Lawrence may be wrapping up her blockbuster franchises (The Hunger Games and X-Men) but she remains one of the most bankable stars around, and now she’s cast her eye towards working with Darren Aronofsky even if it’s at the expense of teaming with Richard Linklater.
We reported earlier today that Lawrence had dropped off Linklater’s adaptation of Graeme Simsion’s novel The Rosie Project, which has a script by Scott Neustadter and Michael Weber (The Fault in Our Stars). She had also recently left Destin Daniel Cretton’s adaptation of Jeannette Walls’ memoir The Glass Castle, although she remains on board as a producer.
It looks like she wasn’t leaving these projects lightly. According to Variety, she’s in talks to star in an untitled indie project for Darren Aronofsky that he hopes will be his next project. The director had been planning to do an Evel Knievel biopic for Sony with Channing Tatum set to star, but Variety says he’s now moved on. He also was working on a script “about a boy living in Staten Island whose drawings come to life,” but budget disputes kept that one from moving forward. There are no details yet on what this project with Lawrence would entail, but it’s certainly a huge get for the director since her name can help boost the visibility of any project she’s attached to.
Lawrence is currently shooting the sci-fi drama Passengers opposite Chris Pratt, and she’s co-writing a screenplay with Amy Schumer. She’ll next be seen in theaters this November in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 and in December in David O. Russell’s Joy. Once she’s done shooting Passengers, her schedule is free, so it will be interesting to see how quickly Aronofsky’s project comes together, and if he’ll be able to keep her on board.
