Coming off Noah, a hit film that no one acknowledged was a hit when it easily could have bombed, we’ve been left wondering what director Darren Aronofsky would do for his follow-up. Last October, we reported that Jennifer Lawrence was in talks to star in an untitled film from Aronofsky, but there were no details on the plot.

Today, Variety reports that Javier Bardem is in talks to co-star with Lawrence in the indie film, which “centers on a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.” Presumably, if Lawrence and Bardem are the couple, this will continue the actress’ trend of playing opposite men who are at least ten years her elder. That being said, it’s tough to argue when the actor is as talented as Bardem (Variety notes that Idris Elba was also being considered for the role, but since it looks like he might do The Dark Tower, that made it easier to put the offer out to Bardem).

Variety also notes that the film has landed at Paramount (which distributed Noah), and the studio plans to release it in 2017.

Bardem will also be seen in theaters in 2017 in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. He also plans to star opposite Penelope Cruz in the Pablo Escobar biopic Escobar. As for Lawrence, she’ll be seen later this year in X-Men: Apocalypse and the sci-fi film Passengers.
