It’s been a busy few weeks for Jeremy Renner, kicked off by the announcement he will star opposite Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible reboot. Last week, Renner was linked to both Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters (with Noomi Rapace) and Sheldon Turner’s Virtue Fall (he’d replace Colin Farrell). We can add the Occupant Films thriller Better Living Through Chemistry to the pile, with Jennifer Garner attached to co-star. Details after the jump.
Here’s how THR describes the plot:
[Better Living Through Chemistry] centers on a small-town pharmacist (Renner) who is stuck in a loveless marriage and rediscovers himself through an affair with a trophy wife (Garner) who introduces him to the pleasures of prescription drugs. Things spin out of control when the affair escalates and the lovers begin plotting to kill the woman’s husband.

Sounds like it could be some frothy fun, especially if they can secure the cast. 24 Frames has Renner keen on the project for the post-M:I slot on his filming schedule, with Garner “poised to star.” THR indicates Garner is “in talks,” and treats Renner’s casting as a matter of fact. Chemistry is the feature debut of Geoff Moore and David Posamentier, who will team to write and direct the pic.
Renner will next be seen in The Town, directed by Garner’s husband Ben Affleck, when it hits theaters September 17th (Check out Steve’s video blog from TIFF here). Garner, meanwhile, has a pair of comedies lined up for 2011: the wacky political satire Butter, and the remake of Arthur starring Russell Brand.

Yes. I’ve been wanting to see Garner try something a little saucier, a little more dangerous.
Saucier. That’s a great word for it. Agreed, Mike.
