Well, folks, Mondo seems to have taken the reigns and gotten Fantastic Fest off to a killer start this morning, dropping Jock’s kickass Dredd 3D poster with hours to spare until the Fest’s opening night movie, Frankenweenie, kicks off Fantastic Fest proper.  Wanna see that poster, find out what you can expect from the rest of our Fantastic Fest coverage?  Meet me after the jump, folks…

How’s everyone doing today?  Good?  Good.  Enjoy that serenity while it lasts:  we’re about to enter a week-long period of surprise (and not-so-surprise) Mondo drops at Fantastic Fest 2012.  As you may have already heard, this year’s Fantastic Fest kicks off tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse’s South Lamar location in Austin, Texas with a world premiere screening of Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie.  Over the next week, some major films will be screening for the assembled crowd—Dredd 3D, Cockneys VS. Zombies, Holy Motors, Red Dawn, and Looper among them—and it’s expected that this year’s Fantastic Fest will feature just as many surprises as Fantastic Fest’s of years past have.

Some of those surprises, of course, will come courtesy of Mondo, who have set up a pop-up store inside the Alamo’s South Lamar location and will be dropping new posters throughout the week.  Many of the biggest posters have already been revealed via other sites, and one of them—Dredd 3D, by Jock—has just dropped at the Mondo pop-up store.  Yes, before the opening night movie has even screened, Mondo's  already making its presence felt at Fantastic Fest 2012.  Here it is:

  • Dredd 3D by Jock
  • 24x36”
  • $45 regular edition

You’re probably wondering what the edition size is…as are we.  I haven’t been able to confirm that just yet, but we’ll provide an update here whenever we’ve got that information confirmed for realz.   In the meantime, let’s assume that it’s several hundred, and hope that there’s plenty to go around, eh?  For those just joining us, Jock’s the guy who did that amazing Dark Knight Rises poster back during Comic-Con:

Speaking of:   there’s a good chance that—unless you’re reading this on a laptop outside the South Lamar Drafthouse or on an iPad while waiting in line to purchase your very own Dredd 3D poster—that you’re probably not attending Fantastic Fest 2012.  What’re you supposed to do?  How might you get your hands on one of these amazing Dredd 3D posters?  Well, the current word-on-the-street tells us that anything  that doesn’t sell out at Fantastic Fest will later sell online via the Mondo website (LINKd that:  www.mondotees.com) , and you should go ahead and follow @MondoNews over on Twitter for any updates about that as they occur.

And for the days ahead?  Keep up with us  over at @LimitedPaper on Twitter for updates whenever we’ve got ‘em, and stay tuned to Collider.com for new installments of Limited Paper as Mondo releases their wares in the days ahead:  all Mondo drops will be happening between now and Sunday evening, and we’ll be updating you via Limited Paper every time one of them occurs.  We’re also going to have an interview with Mondo’s head honchos (Justin Ishmael, Rob Jones, and Mitch Putnam) for you later in the weekend, as well as official Limited Paper reviews from some of Fantastic Fest’s greatest films!  It’s all headed your way in the days ahead, folks, so stay tuned!

As always, if you’re a gallery owner, an artist, or just some guy with a hot poster-related bit of gossip to share, you can get ahold of me via LimitedPaper@Gmail.com, and you can also follow along with us during Fantastic Fest (and the weeks ahead) on Twitter via @LimitedPaper.  Everyone else?  Feel free to sound off in the comments section below with your thoughts on Jock’s Dredd piece, what you’re expecting to drop during Fantastic Fest, and blah, blah, blah.  See ya soon, folks!
