Joe Carnahan to Direct Low-Budget Actioner STRETCH; Patrick Wilson Will Star

     November 1, 2012

It’s easy to forget about it since it came out so early, but for my money director Joe Carnahan’s survival drama The Grey is still one of the best films of 2012.  It was considerably more low-key than his last pic, The A-Team, but I felt that Carnahan and Liam Neeson crafted something really special.  It looks as though the director may be sticking with “low-key” for his next project, as he’s now set to direct Patrick Wilson in the low-budget actioner Stretch for IM Global and Blumhouse Pictures, the studio behind the Paranormal Activity series, Sinister, and Insidious.

Hit the jump for more.

Carnahan has been a busy guy as of late, as he previously tried to get the Daredevil reboot off the ground before Fox realized it was too tight of a schedule to get the film made in time—they had to start production this fall in order to avoid the rights reverting to Marvel.  He’s also been writing a remake of Death Wish that he intends to direct, but just the other day he mused on Twitter about possibly tackling a low-budget film first:

News of Stretch comes in the form of an American Film Market deal (per Screen Daily), and as such details on the project are practically nonexistent.  We don’t know the screenwriter or the plot, but Carnahan generally writes all of his projects so I assume he’ll have a hand in the script.  Blumhouse Pictures is known for their “small budget, big profit” business model, so we’ll likely see a similar model used for Stretch.  As a big fan of The Grey, I’m excited to see another smaller scale project from Carnahan.  Hopefully we hear more soon.

If you`re serious about The Grey being your favorite film of 2012, you`re film standard is equal to nothing. Seriously. You should quit writing here and get a job at having awful taste.

      Wrong. Technically and story-wise brilliant.

For fvcks sake, how many times must I explain this simple concept.

Your ball, your face, your car, your bad understanding of English.

You’re an idiot, you’re not understanding. You’re = you are.

It`s easy to forget because it sucked. The dialogue was awful.

The dialogue was natural, used seldom and only at the right times. If you thought it was awful, you should get out more.

I think the grey is an outstanding film. I dont know why people feel the need to badmouth films. Its as if you have nothing better to do than dimminish others work. If you dont like them then go hide away in your sad little life where noone else has to hear your shit

Stretch is about a limo driver in LA. He talked about it briefly on The Matthew Aaron Show.
