Joel McHale Joins Robert Rodriguez’ SPY KIDS 4

Joel McHale (Community) is in final negotiations to star alongside Jessica Alba in Robert Rodriguez’ Spy Kids 4.  Variety reports that McHale will play “a spy-hunting reporter married to Alba’s character, the stepmother to his kids.”  As we previously reported, Alba’s character is a former spy and two of her three kids are the titular espionage children.  McHale’s character was previously described as “nerdy”.  Filming on the 3D sequel/reboot is set to begin next month in Austin and the movie is due out on August 19, 2011.

McHale wrapped filming on two films this summer: What’s Your Number? with Anna Faris and The Big Year with Steve Martin.  The second season of Community premieres on September 23rd at 8/7c on NBC.
