Just a few hours ago I was in

Long Beach attending the “Speed Racer” junket. To answer your immediate question…I loved the movie. In the coming days I’ll write a lot more than that, but for now, let’s get to the reason you’re here.

While I got to participate in roundtable interviews with most of the cast and super producer Joel Silver, I also managed to talk with Joel after the junket had ended and got a few interesting bits of info as an exclusive.

What I found out was the Wachowski’s have already figured out an idea for a sequel to “Speed Racer,” and even better than that…they’ve already come up with an idea for a sequel to a movie that’s not even begun to film yet…“Ninja Assassin!”

If you don’t know about "Ninja Assassin," it’s being directed by James McTeigue (“V for Vendetta”) and it was written by the Wachowski’s. According to Joel, production begins in a few weeks and he confirmed my Collin Chou story from earlier this week as he didn’t mention him when I asked about the cast.

Oh, and for the record, it’s not “Ninja Assassins,” because when I said the name he corrected me with “Assassin.”

As usual, you can listen to what Joel said as an mp3 by clicking here or you can read the words below.

Expect a lot more on “Speed Racer” in the coming days. And in case you missed them, here’s a link to 7 movie clips from “Speed Racer.”

Collider: I spoke with you at ShoWest and you gave me a little bit of an update on Shane Black. Is it any closer?

Joel Silver: Hopefully this May. I hope May. (I think he means he’ll be getting the script?)

Collider: And then we have Ninja Assassins.

Joel Silver: Ninja Assassin.

Collider: So how is that progressing?

Joel Silver: Fantastic. We start shooting in 3 weeks.

Collider: There was a little story online about casting. What’s going on with casting on that?

Joel Silver: Rain. We’ve got Naomie Harris is going to be in the movie. I don’t think we announced her yet. She’s the girl in the movie – Mika. And the other parts are coming together – we’re making it happen…we’re working on it now.

Collider: And how has it been working with James on this? Is he excited to get started?

Joel Silver: Oh God yeah. He’s got his hands full. It’s a big movie.. it’s not an expensive movie but it’s a lot of work. A lot of visual effects, it’s not like this (he’s talking about Speed Racer) but like we did on The Matrix movies.

Collider: What else do you have coming up besides Ninja Assassin? Is there any other project that’s getting ready to go?

Joel Silver: RocknRolla will come out next.

Collider: I actually spoke to someone who said it’s very good.

Joel Silver: It’s very good.

Collider: Are they making a trilogy?

Joel Silver: Maybe…if it works. It’s really good and it’s a lot of fun. I think it’s the best movie Guy ever made.

Collider: I want to follow up with a question from the roundtables. I asked you if Larry and Andy had come to you and made you smile with a new idea.

Joel Silver: Look, they have a great story idea for a sequel to this movie (Speed Racer), we have a great idea for a sequel if it makes sense to make it. They have a great idea for a sequel to Ninja if they want to make it. We’re having a good time. I love working with them and it’s a great joy to have them in my life. They’re smart and funny and they love the kind of movies I love and they know how to make them like no one else. I look at this movie and can’t believe we created it. I can’t believe it exists.

Collider: I know you have to go, but one last question for you…with The Matrix you guys raised the bar with action and you did things that no one had ever done. Is Ninja Assassin in that kind of light?

Joel Silver: I hope so. But it’s fighting, it’s kung-fu. We did other things in The Matrix that we’re not really doing in this one as much…like car chases and helicopters and all that stuff. This is a martial arts movie.
