Scrubs MVP John C. McGinley has signed on for a role in Summit’s adaptation of I, Alex Cross. Tyler Perry stars as a homicide detective in search of a serial killer: “The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits.” According to Showblitz, McGinley will play Chief of Police Richard Brookwell, a “vigorous, ambitious man” in contrast to Cross’ gentler approach homicide. Matthew Fox, Ed Burns, and Jean Reno also star in the adaptation, directed by Rob Cohen (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) from a script by Kerry Williamson and Marc Moss.
Hit the jump for details on Stephanie Szostak’s role opposite Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D., and info on the high school comedy Gay Dude.
Szostak is in final negotiations to play the female lead in the comic adaptation R.I.P.D. Reynolds plays “a cop killed in the line of duty who is recruited by a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department.” According to Variety, Szostak would play Reynolds’ wife. Jeff Bridges co-stars as Reynolds’ new partner, a gunslinger who has been dead for hundreds of years. Kevin Bacon recently signed on to play the villain. Robert Schwentke (Red) will direct from a script by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans).
Lastly, Dakota Johnson (The Social Network) has landed the female lead in Gay Dude. The script by Alan Yang (Parks and Recreation) landed on the 2008 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays. It centers on two best friends, Matty and Michael, who make a pact to lose their virginity before high school graduation: “their quest takes an unexpected turn when Matty tells Michael he’s gay.” Nicholas Braun, Hunter Cope, and Dreama Walker also star in Gay Dude, directed by Chris Nelson. Sarah Hyland was in talks for a role, but since Variety‘s report does not mention her, Johnson may have taken over the role of “prudish girlfriend” earmarked for Hyland.
