You know what happens when you’re a new director and make a low budget movie that becomes a hit? You wind up being considered to direct big movies, Star Wars, Marvel and DC-sized movies. We’ve seen it happen to Gareth Edwards, Josh Trank and Colin Trevorrow, just to name a few, and now it looks as though John Wick directors Chad Stahelski and David Leith could be making the move straight from feature debut to blockbuster next.
You might have caught this detail in the earlier post about Red Hood and the Suicide Squad plot rumors, but according to Latino Review’s El Mayimbe, DC is going after Stahelski and Leith to direct an upcoming film. What is the film? There’s a bunch of possibilities.
The Flash, Aquaman, Shazam, Cyborg and Green Lantern still need directors, but perhaps it’s no coincidence that El Mayimbe dropped the news in a post that also stated, “I’m also told that the RED HOOD is now a priority character for DC.” If Warner Bros. and DC do wind up announcing a Red Hood movie, perhaps that will be their gig. But, of course, it’s really just a guessing game until they reveal some official details.
No matter what the duo gets – if they get anything at all – I suspect the stunt coordinators-turned-directors will do a bang up job. And I say “suspect” because I’ve yet to see John Wick. (I can watch the most violent horror films, but if you pluck one hair from a puppy’s head, I lose it.)
What do you think? Are Stahelski and Leith the right choice to direct an upcoming DC film and, if so, which one should they get?
