Summit Entertainment has released the first John Wick trailer for the upcoming revenge actioner, and it’s actually kind of great. The film marks the directorial debut of veteran stunt coordinator Chad Stahelski and stars Keanu Reeves as a former hit man who comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters who took everything from him. This trailer is incredibly promising, as the film looks to have the right balance of absurdity and action. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it’s not overly campy either. And Reeves looks to be having a blast as he’s surrounded by a diverse, impressive supporting cast. Add in the fact that John Wick has been chosen to screen at Fantastic Fest next month, and this could prove to be one of the fall’s bigger pleasant surprises.

Here’s the official logline for John Wick:
An ex-hitman comes out of retirement to track down the gangsters that took everything from him. With New York City as his bullet-riddled playground, JOHN WICK (Keanu Reeves) is a fresh and stylized take on the “assassin genre”.
